Stephanopoulos: McCain Holds Key to Administration's Bailout Passage on Capitol Hill

September 23, 2008 3:21 PM

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reports: If Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain doesn't vote for the Bush administration's $700 billion economic bailout plan, some Republican and Democratic congressional leaders tell ABC News the plan won't pass.

"If McCain doesn't come out for this, it's over," a Top House Republican tells ABC News.

A Democratic leadership source says that White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten has been told that
Democratic votes will not be there if McCain votes no -- that there is no deal if McCain doesn't go along.

2. Democrats always fall into the briar patch
:grr:

ALL the senators should say.. "we'll study this, take testimony from EXPERTS and get back to you after January swear-ins of the new congress..

Bushie sat on this until just the right time to drop this little clusterbomb..just in time to throw a monkeywrench into the elections, and to pressure an impromptu vote to wipe out the treasury for the next two decades..

They should say..thanks but no thanks

3. I also heard a Republican say that Democrats will increase the amount way beyond 700 billion.
That with all the things they want to add, it will cost the tax payer much more. :grr:
