GOP rises up ‘en masse’ against White House bailout package.»

Today, Vice President Cheney and White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten spent the day in Congress trying to convince conservatives to accept the administration’s bailout package. Politico reports, however, that “House Republicans rose up en masse against their vice president.” ThinkProgress has compiled a list of conservatives who have declared opposition to the administration’s $700 billion bailout:

Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY)
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC)
Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ)
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA)
Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO)
Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN)
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA)
Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL)

“They were in worse shape when they left than when they came in,” said one lawmaker who was in the caucus meeting with Cheney and Bolten. “These were the wrong guys…The problem is that they’ve used up a lot of good will.” Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called the administration’s bailout “just wrong.” (Let us know in the comments if we’ve missed anyone.)

Update: "I don't know anyone who's sold on this rescue plan,'' said Rep. Wally Herger (R-CA).

1. None of those names would appear on any brain trust list
but it shows that somebody on their staff bothered to read those 35 fateful words.

I'm glad somebody's staff is awake.

9. In this case ..yes.. but they are doing it for the wrong reason
they want to divorce themselves from Bush, and this is his way to give them "permission"..and to hogtie any dems who vote against "saving" the economy..

Republicans are better at framing messages, and you can count on them already working up commercials bashing the dems for even thinking about trying to fix things..

I think they should all just say "thanks but no thanks"

10. Exactly...watch more GOPs using this to convince public they AREN'T fascist tools for Bush agenda
Though they already spent the last 8 yrs proving they ARE exactly that.

I do see trouble ahead for Dem congress. This whole bail out could very well be a set up to protect Republican congressional seats and make things look awfully bad for Dems who will look like they are the ones doing the heavy water carrying for the powerful elite.

20. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave?
She's one of the most homophobic heartless assholes in Congress! I guess her retirement fund must be taking and she's pissed. Surely she can't be doing this for "the people," as she sees most of us as crawling somewhere below her royal hem line. :puke:

7. The cards and the money are on the table. I think it'd be hard for any Congress member
to go home and justify this Administration plan without some debate, negotiation, oversight and accountability.

8. Dems Need to Get on Board With These Republicans
More and more of the American people don't like the 'BIG Bush Bailout Plan'.

Make opposition to this plan bipartisan and when the bottom drops out (and it will whether there is a bailout or not) then Dems will not get blamed.

Then Obama can lead.

years ago....

When they elected a failed oilman as their despicable puppet, and he suddenly decided he really was the Pretzledent.
