NATIONAL 'GUARANTEE MY VOTE' DAY
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 06:51 PM by norepubsin08
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The MICAH Project and America In Solidarity is declaring October 1st as 'GUARANTEE YOUR VOTE' to encourage voters to confirm their ability to be able to vote in the upcoming Presidential Election on November 4, 2008.

Frustrated by the tens of thousands of voters across the country who have had their names purged from voter files, MICAH and AIS initiated this project that is gaining national attention. With what many see as a crucial election right around the corner, MICAH and AIS hopes to prevent voters from learning on election day that they are not registered or able to vote, when it is too late to re-register. October 1st was chosen because most states have a 14- or 30- day preregistration requirement.

We are coordinating with dozens of advocacy groups, organizations, blogs and elected officials to call for voters across the country to check with their local election officials on October 1st to make SURE they are able to vote.

"Let's not allow 2008 to mirror the widespread manipulation we have experienced across the country since 2000" said Todd Iverson, president of America in Solidarity. "Let's have this election decided by the people and not by machines, dirty tricks or voter witch hunts." Mike Collier, chair of the MICAH project describes the project as, "This is a matter of justice, pure and simple. Integral voting is fundamental to our nation's well being. If we lose that, we risk becoming third world country."

In recent events, Wisconsin's Attorney General sued the state's election board to try to remove 20% of the registered voters in this critical swing state. In Michigan, a County Auditor plans on challenging the voting rights of all those who have had their homes put into foreclosure. In Virginia the AFL-CIO reported that college students were deliberately mislead as to where they could register to vote and in New Jersey 300,000 people who thought they were registered found out that they were not on the voter rolls. They either had their names purged or were never entered in the first place. Finally, in Ohio in 2006, 300,000 people were removed from the rolls in three major urban counties and this year another 600,000 have been threatened to be removed.

What can you do? PLease join with us in this call on October 1, 2008 'NATIONAL GUARANTEE YOUR VOTE' DAY. Please endorse the project, spread the word between now and then, and on that day, check on your ability to vote and then email, text or phone all those with in your groups, blogs and organizations.

In Solidarity,

Mike Collier-MICAH chair and Todd Iverson-President, America in Solidarity

Please join in, DUers! Get your friends and relatives to join in! If the election is fraudulent, nothing else will matter a damn.

2. How about a paper ballot?
My state uses touch screens with no paper trail, even I can't check to see if my vote registered properly.
The guys at the poll won't give me a paper ballot. They got real confused when I asked for one and made me talk to someone at "headquarters" who said since the machines were working, I couldn't vote on paper.
