This "FBI Investigating Fannie .... Freddie .... AIG ...... et .... and al" ...............
It kinda scares me.

Consider that a lot of these weasels were nominal Democrats. They hobnobbed with Democrats. They contributed to Democrats. The lobbied the Democrats.

Not all of them.

But enough to provide a skillful, media savvy campaign run by media types with a sufficient number of talking points, truths, half truths, and innuendo to make "It Is All The Fault Of Democrats" a believable meme to enough of the embedded but uncommitted Dumbfuckistanians to vote against us that it could matter in November.

No feds when the criminal repubs are involved and suffering.

A whole posse of them when we could get hurt by them being there.

Makes ya wonder .... donnit?

2. If Democrats did something wrong, they need to be investigated.
One thing that has to be addressed is that the Republicans have used the lop level opensecrets info to imply that the company gave money to top Democrats like Obama, Kerry and Clinton - when in fact the detailed info shows that they got donations from people who work for the company who are not registered lobbyists.

There is serious finger pointing - but the fact of the matter is that most of the bad loans were written on teh Republicans watch and there was a plank in the 2004 platform that addressed mortagage abuses - like balloon loans.

3. Can you be so kind as to provide specifics....or links...
regarding both of these points? I'm already being hammered by right wingers with the meme that Obama received more $ from Fannie Mae et al than anyone (right winger on CNN earlier spouted this).

And you mention a "plank in the 2004 platform that addressed mortgage abuses."

More info would be so helpful. Thanks in advance!

:)

8. Here they are
Here is the detailed Open secrets link:
http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/09/update-fannie-mae-and-freddie.html

Here is a NYT article from 2004 on Kerry's plank:

Here are some other links:
To a recent NYT article that blames Greenspan and the fact that regulators knew there was a problem in 2004 and took until Sept 2006 to issue a report (and I thought corporate task forces were bad!)

To an article that has Repuplican REP Oxley, who was Frank's counterpart blaming Bush and the Republicans in teh Senate who did not push reform in 2005.

To an article that showed the states were stopped from rgulating by Bush

And 2001 article that the banks WANTED deregulation - unlike the strange RW lie.

11. You're welcome I should have included them in the first place
rather than just saying the Republicans are lying. It has been really frustrating hearing this on every channel - knowing it was untrue. (the sad thing is that the same thing was used by Edwards as he was losing to hit Clinton and Obama - saying they got more from health insurers - when it truth, it was the employees and they were both better at raising money from small donors.)

I hope Obama hits this entire thing hard - he is NOT getting PAC money - McCain is.

4. well, if the dems hadn't spent the last 28 years aiding and abetting the repooks in
allowing the greed heads to steal this countries' wealth, they'd have nothing to worry about.

5. hmmm... good point..
but I really don't think the Republicans would like that can opened. It's 8 years of the Tom Delays, Jack Abramoff's, Duncan Hunter's etal running wild. And McCain is too close to it. I wonder what Eliot Spitzer is thinking about all this.

6. AIG
certainly has a checkered past, present and future. Hard to believe the FBI would investigate the CIA. Paging Flagg.

7. 26 Companies being investigated in all. I Call That A Dealbreaker
How could we possibly consider ANY bailout of these thieves

when they are under investigation for wrongdoing already?

I realize an investigation is not a conviction

but it would be enough to deny anyone a liquor or casino license

and they want to borrow a trillion?

Right.

These people are out of their fucking minds!

9. I wonder if this is why Paulsen wants the money FASTER THAN FAST.
I think they are trying to cover for empty accounts, and the shell game they have been playing with derivatives and credit swaps.

12. I guess my point was a little unclear ...... it isn't **about** bad guys getting(or not) punished
It is about the 'convenience' of the FBI looking into this so fast when some of the high level people under investigation supported Dems in the past.

It just smells WAY too political ...... Schmidt-Rovian.

If some Dem doners are also bad guys ... fine ... cut their nuts off. But the timing of this seems waaaaaaay too convenient.
