Treasure Secretary Paulson - Republican Talking Point?

I have heard several times on the radio today (usually in talk shows) Secretary Paulson referred to as a DEMOCRAT Bush appointee. All the research I have done on the web says he is a Republican.

After hearing the Democratic moniker applied to him in a radio station newscast I actually called the radio station and asked where they got the information that he was a Democrat and was told it was "common knowledge".

Is this just a shifting of blame or am I incorrect in my belief that he is a Republican?
