The "VP for torture" Fights a Ban; The "military is appalled by Cheney's stand" - Bush History, 9/24

The "Vice President for torture" steps up to the plate to fight a proposed torture ban in Congress. The "uniformed military is appalled by Cheney's stand". Meanwhile a religious Army Captain calls Rumsfeld on his deception.

Get the details ...

1. You know, looking back through the lens of today and how McCain and Bush are playing
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 01:03 AM by Peace Patriot
good cop/bad cop on the biggest theft in human history, I don't buy this account of McCain being against torture and opposing Cheney on it. I think it's all Rove-directed theater.

Read the account of this at Poor George's Almanac, and ask yourself if they were not already grooming McCain, back then, to continue the worst presidency in the history of the world--to continue the oil wars (probably South America next) and the bottomless glass of water that they are constructing now for endless looting. They had to have a backup plan--had to create the image of a "maverick"--to carry out the next stolen election and make it plausible--a Bush Cartel made man like McCain playing out a series of dramas to appear to be "distancing" himself from the Bushwhacks, but in reality voting with them 90% of the time, and fully on board for their continued war and looting junta.

I think that this account is too naive--from the role of Human Rights Watch (a Corpo propaganda tool) to the assertion that military brass were "appalled" at torture, to McCain's playacting at righteous indignation. Nobody, but a few grunts, were ever going to pay for these crimes. And nobody has. It was a dumbshow--just like McCain's and other Pukes' theatrics about the bailout.

I do believe Army Captain Ian Fishback's accounts of the torture, and his sincerity as a whistleblower. I don't believe anything else in this account. I don't think any of the other players are sincere--except, oddly, Cheney. I do believe that he likes torture. If "sincere" is the right word. And I don't know which is worse--Cheney's naked sadism, or McCain's whorish lying.

2. No offense, but I disagree
I do think that McCain, who has suffered torture of course, was sincere in his standing up against it. It is in the greater tradition of the US military as well, although I am sure not always perfectly upheld. I think it is simpler to view the world in black & white: McCain all bad, McCain = Bush etc, and for the most part there is a LOT of truth to that. But on torture there WERE differences. McCain though, when he started taking his White House bid seriously came to be much closer to the Bush / Cheney position as he ran in the GOP primaries. For awhile there though, McCain was taking postitions against torture that America could hold its head high on.
