Fight Back Against High Gas Prices -- Support Public Transit
Dear Senator _____________________________:

I am writing to urge you to support H.R. 6052, the "Saving Energy Through Public Transportation Act of 2008." This bill would provide the resources to keep the buses rolling in my community and help my transit system cope with the tidal wave of new riders that we have seen since gas prices started soaring. Transit is in crisis and we need emergency federal intervention.

Like the rest of us, transit agencies are also paying more for fuel, and it is putting a huge strain on their budgets. Therefore, at a time when demand for public transportation is at one of its highest points in history, we are facing the elimination of an untold number of routes used by commuters. Transit needs to be part of the solution -- not the victim -- of high gas prices.

Between the price of food, fuel, and health care, working families are getting squeezed like never before. I need your help to avoid service cuts and fare increases. I urge you to pass the Saving Energy Through Public Transportation Act of 2008 now! Please let me know your views on this matter.

Signed,___________________________________

1. I would LOVE to support public transit, but WE DON'T HAVE ANY!
NONE! I don't live in a rural country home. I live in a suburb, but I'm only 10 miles from one of the larger cities in Ga. My husband works in an area that has some PT, but there's no link to get to and from work!

When I lived in Pgh, Pa. I rode the bus every day until I got a schedule that I couldn't.

2. me too---
I would love to have a good bus or train system. In college I lived in Europe for a semester--and my lifestyle without a car was wonderful. I could walk to the subway, the train station, work, restaurants, bars, shopping, entertainment--it was a wonderful lifestyle.
