My letter to a billionaire...(re: new Windows ads) |
|
Dear Mr. Gates, First, congratulations on your fight to stave off Macintosh's aggressive ad campaign with your own, but I have to point out that the ads that feature both the famous, infamous and anonymous are completely unrelatable to the average Windows user. The vast majority of us do not have three NBA title rings or are married to Eva Longoria, do not have an opportunity to swim with white sharks, shoe shop with a comedian or even have the opportunity to make a difference in Africa. Instead we slog to work everyday, attempt to meet our deadlines and solve the crisis du jour at the office, and try to keep our lives in balance even as our management demands longer work hours from us because they understand the economy as much as we do. All we ask Windows (in whatever form we use) to do is to work seamlessly, efficiently and transparently and Office products to be intuitive enough to be able to produce a simple yet elegant document, spreadsheet or presentation. If you could use your influence to produce products as I've described you'll never again have to worry about the competition.
Respectfully

3. It's not just the OS.... |
|
...it's the weight of the OS and anyone who has ever had to struggle with anything other than a standalone knows what I'm talking about.

6. I've run million hit/day sites on Windows servers. |

Windows desktops work and Windows servers work. Linux and OSX work too.
Fill me in, what doesn't work on Windows?

from anybody.
In the case of MS or Apple it's all about marketing... so the lowest common denominator is the goal. In the case of linux the edges will always be rough because there's little incentive to make them otherwise.

5. Windows will never work seamlessly, efficiently, or transparently |

Unreliability and a less-than-intuitive GUI have been Windows flaws from day 1. It has something to do with MS putting the company before the consumer.
I have no idea why anyone but gamers buys their crap.
