1. Be careful when you watch

You may feel your IQ slipping as you listen to this interview.

I do admire your courage...The Ahmadinejad apologists will be all over you like the Supreme Religious Fundie Iranian Council having a hissy-fit about women in shorts and their garment rendering over homosexuals.

Oh...and there will be the obligatory posts that tell us how he's much better than duh-bya.
I guess some people can't multi-task evil.

3. Don't be silly
I doubt that anyone here really LIKES Ahmedinajab. I've never seen anyone going around about what a wonderful place Iran is to live in.

But I and a lot of other people don't see the ravings of ONE politician who has no actual political power as a reason to invade yet another sovereign nation, especially one in which the younger generation is more pro-Western (which would change overnight if the U.S. invaded).

5. I see

No one I know of here has ever said they supported the invasion of Iran.

Yet, when people (like myself) have criticized his government we have been met by two responses:

1) Well...he's better than bush. As if that makes everything better. Mao may have been better than Pol Pot, but that line of reasoning is just flat out idiotic. To try and defend someone by looking for the lowest common denominator of human behavior is an intellectually and morally bankrupt argument.

2) They accuse his critics of enabling the invasion of Iran. I had one response that went something to this effect, "So, you think it's ok to invade Iran?"
No one ever said it was, but there are people here who make that argument.

Explain, please, how criticizing the idiotic statements of a homophobic, ranting, demagogue equates to support an invasion?

on edit: please do not read anything into my op comment of "I see" When I can't think of anything to put in the OP line I usually go with 'I see', 'But..." or something equally non-creative

7. If you don't favor "getting tough" on Iran
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 09:04 AM by Lydia Leftcoast
why bother saying anything about Ahmedinajab at all? He's just one objectionable Third World government figure out of a cast of thousands. And people DO use his statements as reasons that Iran has to be "taken care of."

I've learned to be skeptical when it feels as if the American people are being presented with a foreign leader to hate.
