1. Yes. Stations are either out completely or they are rationing.

2. Yes. Why, yes we are!
Is there a real shortage? I don't know. But as soon as a gas station gets any gas (and I've only seen them get the regular unleaded) the cars are lined up and waiting...and then the station runs out of gas. We saw one with diesel only.

Right now, I think it's a timing issue. Well, that and the way people are in a panic once they do find gas.

Why do you ask?

4. The reason I am asking is because I have a few relatives who
are conspiracy theorists...at least I hope I'm right.

They are telling me you can't get gas in Atlanta, and I asked "why?". They didn't really know, but
they are telling me to go out and buy water, canned goods, propane for my gas grill, 2 gas tanks for it, candles, etc.

They think the stock market is going to fall and there will be wide looting, etc., martial law, etc. etc.

Frankly, I don't know who to listen to anymore.

7. Well...
I'm not sure what the trucking companies are doing for fuel.

This is supposed to iron itself out once people stop freaking out and buying out the stations. I guess that's why there's a ration.

11. Conspiracy theorists? I'll have you know that not only
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 09:13 AM by Texas Explorer
has there been people who've been seeing this financial crisis coming and who've seen this fuel shortiage coming, but they've also been screaming bloody murder about it. Those are your fucking "conspiracy theorists"!

But, ooooohhhhhh nnooooo, since you only see them as "conspiracy theorists", you tend to take everything they say with a giggle and a smirk. And when what these "conspiracy theorists" have been theorizing comes about, you come on a message board all worried and shit. And you still call them "conspiracy theorists"! PAH!!!

As for the "conspiracy theorists" telling you to "go out and buy water, canned goods, propane for my gas grill, 2 gas tanks for it, candles, etc.", you would have done that already if you had just listened to the "conspiracy theorists"! But, noooooooooooo, they're just batshit crazy lunatics in your book and now you're crying because you're too stupid and too judgemental to listen to their warnings and you presumed that they were siimply batshit crazy.

Want another batshit crazy "conspiracy theory"? Crude oil production has peaked and will soon enter a decline that we will NEVER RECOVER FROM! That's called "Peak Oil". But you won't bother because your relatives are "conspiracy theorists" and so am I!

12. My goodness, I didn't expect such a hateful reply. I was merely
stating my fear of not knowing what to believe. I never called them batshit crazy lunatics. I happen to love these people more than anyone in the world.

14. You're the one that called them "conspiracy theorists". Don't try to

back out of it now.

Edite to add: I like that you used the word "hateful", not that it's accurate. But it does get others who scorn "conspiracy theorists" to take a look at my post and the message is for them too. Us "conspiracy theorists" told you these developments were coming and we tell you so you aren't taken by surprise. But you don't listen. Perhaps my mini-rant will make one or two people take those they have formerly called "conspiracy theorists" a bit more seriously now rather than placing them under some perceived umbrellas of craziness.

5. My neighbor just came by
and said he was followed a tanker into a station and was able to buy a half a tank of gas. This was in Asheville, NC. He was as happy as a kid on Christmas day. When you google Asheville, the first thing you see is gas searches.

6. Yep. Seems like they could do something to fix the problem by now.
Still many stations closed, or with very limited gas on hand. Lots of people have long commutes here too.
Huge exurbs around this city. Thankfully, I am within 2 miles of my job.

8. Yes. I think the problem is that with the electricity down in Houston
they can't pump gasoline through the pipelines that serve the Southeast.

15. Here in Richmond
there are reports of shortages and gas stations being out, but I haven't personally witnessed this. My husband's car takes diesel and he hasn't had trouble getting it and my son's jalopy has been getting regular fill-ups with no problem so far. My poor car has been in the shop for a month since I had an accident - the day after I filled up my tank!!!

16. WAKE UP, SHEEPLE!
Those who study the oil market and energy infrastructure and make a habit of trying to understand it ("peak oilers"), correctly predicted these shortages happening and the timetable, when Gustav and Ike took out Gulf Oil and many refineries.

After some time the production will most probably come back close to pre hurricane levels and the shortages will ease at least temporarily, until the next bad hurricane season. So this is just a soft warning of what is a gradual slide downwards, some time (don't know when) it WILL get so bad that groceries cannot be delivered to supermarkets and there will be shortage of food and medicine and all that living in technocratic society depends on. And then you die. It's not complicated, it's basic analytical thinking.

17. Why is gas available 45 minutes outside the city?
less demand? less panic? fewer sheep?

18. Oh yes. Fortunately, I filled up last Friday
on the way to work at 6 a.m. It was at the Citgo in Woodstock, just northwest of Atlanta. There was plenty of gas and no lines. But on the way home, there were lines at the pumps. This morning, the station had no gas. All the other stations on my way to work through Woodstock and Marietta were out of gas. There was just one that had gas, a QT on Cobb Parkway.
