Greed and Irresponsibility - Make your voice heard NOW
From Barack Obama:

The era of greed and irresponsibility on Wall Street and in Washington has created a financial crisis as profound as any we have faced since the Great Depression.

Congress and the President are debating a bailout of our financial institutions with a price tag of $700 billion or more in taxpayer dollars. We cannot underestimate our responsibility in taking such an enormous step.

Whatever shape our recovery plan takes, it must be guided by core principles of fairness, balance, and responsibility to one another.

• No Golden Parachutes -- Taxpayer dollars should not be used to reward the irresponsible Wall Street executives who helmed this disaster.

• Main Street, Not Just Wall Street -- Any bailout plan must include a payback strategy for taxpayers who are footing the bill and aid to innocent homeowners who are facing foreclosure.

• Bipartisan Oversight -- The staggering amount of taxpayer money involved demands a bipartisan board to ensure accountability and oversight.

My Letter:

I work for a large company that sells a product that is nearly credit-only (just about no one buys cash) and we have definitely felt the crunch over the last year. We have had several rounds of layoffs and are down to skeleton crews, and those of us that remain are fearful the company won't make it. We were recently told that we now must work a mandatory 50-hour work week to help with the short staff situation. We are closing the offices between Christmas and New Years, without pay, to help cut overhead costs.

My husband and I make decent money, but are STILL feeling the crunch with rising gas costs and food prices. For the first time in many years our bank account is dwindling and we feel one pay-check away from catastrophe. We had a family emergency several months ago that has left it hard for us to catch up. I have now taken an additional part-time job just to relieve some of the pressure. At nearly 40 years old I feel like I did when I was 25 and struggling.

I am thankful for my life, even with the recent harder times we're facing, because I can only imagine how hard it must be for families making less. We are lucky to have bought our house 10 years ago for 1/2 the price they say it's worth even in the declining market... I can't imagine a higher mortgage payment or living in fear of losing our home. We NEED leadership that stands up for the middle class and for so much of the country that is struggling... We NEED leadership that will change this country for the better.

I am an Obama-Support because I believe with all my heart he IS the change we need. I am fearful of what will happen to this country if the republicans are in power for another 4 years.
