Rachel Maddow has raised the bar .... |
|
Watching an intelligent journalist has got me giddy...she is truly a phenomenon in todays media world..and I absolutely love watching some of the shills she has as guests...they know that she is a force..its her brain and natural ability to add 2 + 2...first Obama brings intelligence to the national arena and then Rachel gets her own show...we deserve both of them...smart has finally become acceptable again...and the ratings?..just another signal to the same old tired so called media celebrity journalists that their game is over...

1. I agree.......and have to admit that her talks w.Buchannan |
|
are absolutely delightful. I hate Buchannan, but her delighted laughter when he says something outrageously stupid are worth watching.

I absolutely love her. She is a tough cookie and can hold her own with ANYONE. My husband pegged it earlier in the summer --- he said that she would get her own show in the fall because she was just fantastic filling in for Keith Olbermann.
I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see her interview Sarah Palin.

5. Rachel is not a journalist |
|
I love Rachel, but she sees herself as a pundit, not a journalist. She did not study journalism and she has a doctorate in political science. What she has is a lot of talent, enthusiasm for politics and the Truth.
Other than that, I agree with you about her show. She proves that liberal/progressive pundits can be entertaining, informative, and successful.

She's more of a journalist than most journalists |
|
She's a journalist because the people who SHOULD be practicing the craft have decided to become celebrity stenographers. Until they decide to start doing their job again, I'll rely on Rachel.

but she was never trained as a professional journalist. And she would admit to that.

16. By that standard, neither was Murrow. |
|
He didn't study journalism, he majored in Speech. He was active in campus politics. He did celebrity interviews and UFO documentaries. He did editorials. And he was totally biased against poor Joe McCarthy.

18. Murrow earned his cred during WWII |
|
and many would probably say he wasn't a journalist. In a sense he was kind of a prototype of the current talk show host or pundit.
Rachel is a talk show host. Nothing wrong with that, but a talk show host is not necessarily a journalist. Real honest journalists do the investigation and make credible contacts to find or report on a story. Rachel does her research but she bases her research on the stories of journalists. She is not doing the journalism. She's a talk show host who discusses stories others wrote with the authors themselves or the topic of journalist's articles.

9. She is SO popular because she talks to people in terms they understand, while every single time |

hitting the nail directly on the head. Even if you're not "liberal", this is a breath of fresh air.

11. I think Rachel's presence has caused other reporters to up their game... |
|
Tweety isn't such a Republican kiss ass anymore, and I doubt Campbell Brown would be as vocal if she wasn't feeling the pressure to compete with Rachel. She (as Kieth did before her) has challenged the media to do their job, and I couldn't be happier.

12. I can't believe I am making time each night to watch her - don't do that for anyone |
|
Hope she keeps her winning streak - it is refreshing to just listen to her mind work through issues and ideas in a sharp cookie way. Don't see that very often in the media.

19. What will be interesting is when Rachel begins criticizing President Obama |
|
and his policies next year and see how this board reacts.
Rachel stayed neutral during the Dem primary. She had problems with both Hillary and Obama and she was critical of both during the primary.
Rachel will be critical after the election as Democrats organize in the wake of the Bush Disaster years. Her honest criticism will be essential for progressives and Democrats not happy with the Dem Establishment to sort out the games our Dem leaders may or will play after becoming the Party-in-Power. Power corrupts. Rachel's and Keith's voices will be necessary to help us keep our Dem leaders from being corrupted by the power WE entrust in them.
