STOP ELECTION THEFT! (It is going on RIGHT NOW. )

Read this: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x508580

Get EVERYONE you know to CHECK THEIR VOTER REGISTRATION -- today. Call your county election board and make sure that you are registered, and registered at the right address.

Here's a resource: http://canivote.org

If there is a problem with a registration, voter missing, wrong address, wrong name, etc., there is still time to re-register -- but the window is closing fast.

YOU --DO THIS. DO NOT ASSUME YOUR OWN REGISTRATION IS OK. Then help everyone you know to check. After that join one of the election protection groups that are going into targeted communities to do this. Or, if you are working for the party or a candidate, doing GOTV and canvassing, advise Obama supporters to do this. Every vote we save is one we need.

Then, make sure that everyone knows the rules for ID, provisional ballots, etc. in your state. Help everyone to follow the rules to the letter of the law.

Let us have NO VOTE LEFT BEHIND-- and mean it for real!

3. An example from where I live...
About 3 weeks ago we received a strange form in the mail, that seemed to us to be a voter caging effort. We took it down to the local Obama Campaign headquarters and gave it to the gal there in charge. She said she'd send it to the local election officer as it looked suspicious to her also and they'd had other samples of this.

We also filled out an address change on our voter registration while we were there also, because for years we've had our PO Box as the address and it has never been an issue before when we voted, but this year, just to make sure since they say you need a physical address, not a po box, we changed it to our street address. Just to preempt them saying at this point we couldn't vote. we voted in the primary in August with the PO Box addy and it wasn't an issue, but this time for the general we changed it just so it wouldn't be a problem. This election is WAY TOO IMPORTANT to gamble on...

Please everyone, make sure you're registered, every i is dotted and every t crossed, 'cause they will do whatever they can to skew this in the repugs favor.

6. Make sure you get your new voter registration card & the address is correct.

You should be getting a new card with the address change on it any day, if you don't have it already. If you don't get it soon CALL the county election office!

Bring ID to the poll.

As you say this election is way too important to take a chance on.

20. Yeah, GOTV!
Even though I'm Canadian, I really want to see Obama and the Democrats win. I worry that a McCain administration will curb civil rights even further, and start another war. I also believe that Americans deserve a better government.

I'm working for a New Democrat candidate in the Canadian Federal Election, and starting this election, we have to show proof of identity and address at the polling stations. I've been going OCD over that. I'm telling everyone I know about the new i.d. requirement, and getting my fellow campaign workers, especially canvassers, to inform the voters.

Good luck with your campaigns!

4. I believe it's too damn late now to do anything.
This should have been addressed repeatedly over the last 7 and a half years by our dems in congress. For some reason, only a few were interested. Tell my why, anyone?

8. Yeah, and now, when the timing is crucial,
the rally cry is straight from the Wizard of Oz:
"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!"
Because hey! We are in the throes of an ECONOMIC CRISIS! There is NOTHING more important than bailing out Wall Street. IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!

I've been pushing voting issues for 8 years, and almost no one wants to listen. Those who do look at me like I'm a nut job. So be it, but I'll say it again: There is not one single issue facing this country that is more important than the integrity of our voting system. Without it, we can kiss all of our hopes and dreams for change goodbye.

9. Keep pushing it, LB!!! There are some of us that are REALLY
upset by all of the election fraud, and have been working for years. The media has a vested interest in not broadcasting 24/7 about it, since they are the beneficiaries (deregulation of media by the republicans).

Keep up the good work!! :hi:

7. I was removed from the registration
I know someone in the Secretary of State office and they know I am voting for Obama. I think he removed me from the polls.

I was registered, but when I checked it said I wasn't registered.

I advise you to check if you want to vote.

11. Ask Candidates to Pledge to Challenge Elections if Necessary!
In many places -- including Pennsylvania -- ONLY candidates can initiate a recount. In the case of Congressional elections, only candidates can initiate a Congressional Challenge.

In addition to what DemoDonkey is suggesting here, which is HUGELY important, there are other tools we have and must use to protect the election to the extent now possible. One of these is the election challenge in all its forms.

PLEASE go to Standing For Voters. Click on "For Voters" to see how you can ask candidates -- no matter what office they're running for and regardless of party affiliation -- to Stand For Voters by taking the pledge.

This is an opportunity for you to do a little bit of work that may reap a huge benefit. What if your request to a candidate resulted in an election challenge that helped bring about the end of electronic voting? Wouldn't that feel good? You might be able to achieve this with one phone call or email to a candidate. Give it a try.

17. In some states you can file an absentee ballot pretty easily.
If so, you may get advance notice if there is a registration problem - and you won't have to stand in line on Nov. 4.

You can avoid the electronic voting machines, though you have to trust that your absentee ballot will be counted.

18. Are you supposed to find your name? I clicked on on "Find your polling place
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 07:33 PM by Maraya1969
and got to a page about registering to vote. Then I clicked "Absentee voting and was given a form to fill out to absentee vote. No pick Obama or McCain.

I did not register to vote when I first came to Florida because I thought I had a felony, (I still don't know....my lawyer was a jackass). EDIT" to add that the bottom of the registration form said felons are not allowed to vote and it can be penalized by jail. But then I became involved and said "fuck it" and registered. I wonder if my registration didn't count. ;(

28. Since you are in Florida, the Obama campaign can look in the voter files
To see if you are registered. If you are not, you have until Oct. 6 to register in Florida. So do not delay. You will need a Florida Driver's license or Florida ID card OR provide the last four digits of your SSN - but if you have ever had a Florida Driver's License, you should use that.

If you want to PM me your name and address, I can look up Florida voters on the campaign database.

23. A important reminder - why doesn't DU post a bulletin at the top of each discussion page with this

Double check your voter registration. There is a coordinated effort to suppress the vote, and you may be a target. Double check your voter registration ASAP, and find out any requirements for voting in your state.

24. Checking on Broward County, Florida
I'm in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and I was able to verify my registration online at http://www.miamidade.gov/elections/ab-status.asp

I tried to find a similar resource for my friends in neighboring Broward County (Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, etc.) but couldn't find anything on the web. I just sent this email to the office of Dr. Brenda C. Snipes:

To: Elections@browardsoe.org
Subject: How do I verify voter registration online?
From: (my email)
Date: Wed, 24 Sep 2008 21:28:53 -0400

Hello,

I hope you can help me. Miami-Dade County has an online web page to verify
voter registration at http://www.miamidade.gov/elections/ab-status.asp
but I can't find the one for Broward County. Is there one? If so, where?

Thank you,

(signed)

30. Some counties are more advanced than others in Florida
The Obama campaign has the entire Florida voter database and it is being updated regularly with new voter registrations.

As I mentioned above, I can look up Florida voter registrations in their data base - I just need enough info to verify that it is the right person. PM me what you can and I will look up your friend.

32. Caging
A few weeks ago my mother received a call for me at her home. I still receive the occasional piece of mail there as it was my home of record while I was in the service. When the caller (who refused to identify himself of his agency/party) found out that I didn't live there, he said that was not going to be allowed to vote this year and could face prosecution if I attempted to do so.

I've voted several times at my current address and have checked with the local office to ensure I am properly registered. I contacted my local rep who is looking into other complaints of this type.

DO NOT ASSUME THAT YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO VOTE! CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION NOW!

36. I checked a few days ago
and my husbands' address change hasn't been changed. Also, my new registration since I
have moved from Florida, had not been entered even though I have received our new cards already.

So, I tried to check them again a few minutes ago and got this wonderful response:

Not Found

The requested URL /Webpgms/VRINQNAME1.pgm was not found on this server.

I did, however, get a call today on my cell phone from the Obama campaign in Broward County, Florida!
But, unfortunately I had to tell them that I don't live there anymore.

I know our votes won't mean much in Mississippi, but I'm making damn sure they will get them!!

38. if someone has a problem voting it is PRESUMPTIVELY ILLEGAL
that's an important reminder left out of the OP and in spreading the word on this subject. "Voter compliance" is not the whole story, "voting rights" is a much more important perspective and reality. If we're not armed with a knowledge of our inalienable rights and statutory voting rights, we're ill-equipped to fight this kind of stuff.
