Steny Hoyer: Bush should go on national TV and appeal to Americans to support the bailout
Democratic leaders seek ‘sweet spot’ on bailout
Anger, skepticism among members of both parties may put bill in jeopardy

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said President Bush, even with his diminished credibility among Democrats, ought to go on national television and appeal to the American people to support the rescue bill.

Hoyer stressed to reporters that the Bush administration’s arguments for the bailout bill were “their rationale” and the request for $700 billion “their request.”

“This is administration policy. We didn’t suggest this — this is not our program,” Hoyer told reporters.

But in the end it will be Hoyer and other Democratic leaders who will have to find the Democratic votes to pass the bill.

6. Exhibit A for why we need a third party that represents the middle class
Both parties are paid for by corporate interests that don't care about us. They care about keeping their con game going.

Kill this bailout of the filthy rich now.

15. Now that's a catchy phrase, send Nancy Pelosi, et. al., an email ...
that merely conveys, "Bailout is off of the table!"

22. I think they are making a huge mistake backing this bailout so vociferously
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 12:14 PM by UK populist
The bailout won't work and now the Dem's have painted Mccain as the man who sunk it. Repub's in the House have come back with a totally ridiculous plan but it looks like it will save the taxpayers money. They can now say that they listened to all the expert independent economists when the bailout which is going to be pushed through hard now against faux outrage by the same repub house members fails.
It also gives the Mccain camp exactly what they wanted by pushing Mccain right into centre stage. He can't lose now because if it fails he was against it and if it works until past the election he can say he didn't commit to the alternative, He just felt it was prudent to explore over options when there was so much content against the plan. It also gave him the platform to solidify the fiscal conservative base who hate him.

And lets not forget the fact that they will go to any lengths to retain the white house even if it sink the US economy.
