'I ghost-wrote letters to the editor for the McCain campaign'

Sept. 24, 2008 | "You can be whoever you want to be," says an inviting Phil Tuchman. "You can be a beggar or a millionaire. A mom or a husband. Whatever. You decide!"

I volunteer in political campaigns now and then. After a series of outings for Obama and a first mission as a phone banker for John McCain, I returned to McCain's headquarters in Arlington, Va. The offer was too alluring to delay -- they wanted to put me into action as a ghostwriter. Next to commercials and phone banking, writing letters to the editor is the most important method of the McCain campaign to attract voters. At least that is what's written in the guidelines that McCain campaign worker Phil Tuchman presents to me.

1. Their campaign slogan should be changed to
Lies and Hypocrisy! Now you know where the dog tags he had at the 60 minutes interview came from. My son had one of those made for his girlfriend in the mall last Christmas. They are such liars!

2. No surprises there...
Although it is amusing to see how gullible retardlicans are for cheesy rhetoric. I remember my dad ranting and raving over Bush Senior's press conferences, wondering who could be stupid enough to fall for such crap....

4. astro turf
be on the lookout for this. If you spot a LTTE that sounds spurious, take a sentence from the letter and google it. If you get multiple hits, then it is astro-turf. I have outed a couple of people this way with our local fishwrap and now they do this before any letter gets printed. I got a nice thank you note from the editor and he sent me a copy of the letter he sent to the "submitter" scolding him and warning him that future letters would not be printed if he tried this again. Now the ground rules for submitting letters now states that anything lifted from blogs or other sources will not be printed.

6. last poster made a great suggestion
and of course, if we can stop the copy and paste there will be no more LTTE because they can't write.
