Woman: Group Forced Devil Worship
Woman: Group Forced Devil Worship

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A Palm Coast woman was in critical condition at Flagler Hospital after law enforcement officials were told she was abducted from Flagler County, beaten, bound and forced to participate in a pagan ritual in St. Johns County.

Michelle Wood, 42, was found lying beside the road in the 9100 block of U.S. 1 South, WJXT reported. The deputies who responded said her face appeared to be severely beaten, her eyes were bruised and swollen shut. Her top lip was swollen, her shirt covered in blood and still had a piece of nylon rope around her right wrist and a bungee cord around her left ankle and her belt loop.

Wood told the deputies a story that began when five guys stopped her Saturday on her way home from church, put a gun to her head and forced her to drive to a home in Bunnell where a drug party was going on.

She said a teenager she didn't know was tied up inside the house and they threatened to kill him if she didn't cooperate and she was attacked by a woman with a knife when she refused to participate in a devil worship ceremony.

this article manages to lump pagans, satanists and people practicing voodoo into some giant hybrid.

5. WTF is this pagan = devilworship?
This is a voodoo cult they are talking about, not paganism.

11. One could argue that devil-worshippers are actually Christians.
Worshipping Satan is an outgrowth of Christianity. Though I don't think I've ever actually heard of anybody really worshipping Satan. Most claimants actually worshipped Set, an Egyptian god. Those who do the goats blood sacrifice thing seem like they are just doing it for a thrill. Although I'm probably wrong, there probably are people who genuinely worship the Christian "Satan" but they are probably very few in numbers.

10. Ridiculous.
First of all, this story doesn't come off as very believable. Oh, I don't doubt that the victim was severely injured, and I feel sorry for her. But I think that "They captured me coming out of church and forced me to go to an evil ritual" thing is horse-hockey. Maybe I'm just far too cynical, but I'm thinking it was more like she went to the admitted "drug party" and things got way out of hand in some way, maybe involving money. She was beaten, not sexually assaulted (thank goodness), and dumped by the side of the road. How to explain this to the church-going crowd? How to protect her innocent reputation??

"It was the divvil." Suuure.

And, damn it, someone down there call up the station and clue them in (probably not for the first time) that Pagans aren't Satanists! (Not that real Satanists would do this either.)

Rant over. :P
