Congress should stay in session.
Everyone suspects the timing of this bailout proposal. A little more that a week before the critters go home to try and convince their constituents what a great job they've done for them. Congress should stay in session until they get it right. I've spoken to some Yankee old timers up here in NH...rock solid Republicans...they are disgusted with the Repubs and they don't like this bailout. I think they are more inclined to vote for someone who stays in Washington until a decent and fair solution to this crisis is achieved than some hack who comes racing home to sell them some more bullshit.

Our gutless leaders should announce today that Congress is in session until the job is done. I suspect that this would hurt the Republican candidates more.

1. If they can propose it for that lamebrained Drill NOW crap, they can propose it for this crisis.
I'll just hold my breath while I wait for Bush to suggest it. ;)

4. There weren't elections to be won THEN.
Personally, I think they're screwed either way and WE'RE doubly screwed if they go along with any of the Paulson/Bernanke/WH proposals.

8. I don't see how they could go with that BS... not now.
The cat's outta the bag, and the entire nation is POed.

If the dems okayed this BS as is, it'd be the death of the party.

Even if they okay it with oversight -- but no equity stake, that's still enough to damn them IMO.

2. Rep. Hastings just now argues for staying in sessions.
He is R. in Eastern Washington, very conservative part of state.

3. agreed
there are bigger issues right now than campaigning. Even Obama and McCain should be there for this bailout issue.

6. Personally, I think they should fund about $25 billion and all go home. The treasury can just wait
until after the election.

7. IF YOU LET THEM HAVE THE MONEY WE WILL HAVE NONE WHEN WE NEED IT.
These guys act like the Sopranos

The Mark: American People
The Threat: If you don't pay us your economy will fail, you will loose your homes, jobs and have no food.
The Payoff: 700 billion
The Terms: You have 7 days to get us the money.

The request for 700 Billion Dollars comes from criminals that have duped the American Public and Foreign Investors. The scam has been discovered, now they want your money to help them bail themselves out while leaving you nothing to help yourself in the coming hard times ahead. The have lied about the value and rating on the paper they have sold and are in hot water with foreign investors. They are really scared that no one will lend them any more money and that they will be unable to pay their bills. Sound familiar? If there was a credit rating for these jokers it would be at the bottom. If your credit rating was at the bottom would you expect someone to loan you any money? They do. They expect you to loan them money. This isn't about home loans gone bad. This is about fictitious numbers on paper that is worthless that they need to cover. This is about derivatives that are worthless. We need to tell these people no way and use Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and smaller banks to deal out loans for businesses and home loans so this country can keep going. We need to start immediately doing accounting and reviewing on these companies and seize them and their asserts if they committed fraud. Put people in jail. Anyone that has bought their lies and looses money will have to take their punches. There are many smaller banks that are poised to move up the ranks that can take place of these crooks. Do you really want to help these crooks out so they can do it again?
