Did Palin Really Say She Wouldn't Hire Blacks?
September 24, 2008 -- In a meeting with a group of prominent African-American leaders on April 29, 2008 Alaska governor Sarah Palin allegedly said that she wouldn’t hire blacks in her cabinet or on her staff. This explosive charge—if true-- would cast serious doubts on Palin’s fitness for the vice-presidency.

Political analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson does an in-depth examination of the accuracy of the claim. He talked to members of Palin’s staff, the McCain-Palin campaign committee, and Alaska’s black leaders. Their reactions to the allegation of racial insensitivity by Palin sheds new light on the role race could play in a McCain-Palin administration.

“The rumors that Governor Sarah Palin is hostile to blacks and minorities abound,” says Hutchinson, ”They have been grist for the gossip mill on the internet. As always the truth of Palin’s views and actions on race and diversity are far more complex than the allegations and speculation.”

7. Use the truth
You don't need to spread unsubstantiated rumors about Palin to criticize her. She has an extensive political record. Attack her on the public record, not on simply rumors for which there is not sourcing, merely allegations.

Let's all try to raise the tone of the debate. We undermine our own credibility when we use such marginal, race-based rumors to try and do character assassination. We wouldn't want Repugs to do such things, and we should avoid doing it ourselves and hold the moral high ground on such baseless attacks.

8. beg to differ. the article clearly stated sources.
The assessment of the Palin meeting(s) by the NAACP, community organizers, as well as the President of the African American Historical Society, as stated in the article, do not, in my opinion, constitute mere rumors and to some of us it's not marginal. Obama needs every vote he can get. To me every person of color should know of her inaction in this matter. This is not at the same level of the waitress, wishing to remain unidentified, who heard Palin call Obama "sambo;" that I consider is unsubstantiated. The NAACP is no fly by night organization and I suspect neither is the Historical Society. It's insulting, to me, that the author of the article is also slightly dismissive of their claim. As far as I'm concerned, this just adds to Palin's litany of lunacy; let her wallow in as many that come her way.

4. Who is this blogger? He doesn't seem all that "sensitive" himself
at times.

And why didn't he bring up the tendency of Dominionists to hang out with (or, to be) white supremacists? That would be easy enough.

6. It cuts both ways.
If you bar the press from your meetings, they can't act as witnesses to what was said or not said.
