I have the privilege of actually shopping at the PX... I save a buck here and there
But... here is what got my full attention... they are having supply problems. Now read this again.THEY ARE HAVING SUPPLY PROBLEMS
Now this is not about supporting troops or not. Reality is that if they are having supply issues how long until your local store has them as well?
Just connecting dots...that's all

3. I've noticed a growing amount of empty spots in the shelves there - |
|
32nd St. is still pretty well stocked, but the outlaying NEX/PX's around the bases and the housing are not carrying as much of the "basics" as they used to. I'm seeing a lot more high-end/specialty consumables ("hostess or party gift basket" or internet specialty items)and less of the standard supermarket brands there. And even then, as I said before, everything's spaced out to hide the fact there's about 1/3 less product on the shelves than there were three months ago.
And $4.00 for a gift-packaged can of "specialty Bistro/home cooking chef that you can only get in the finest stores" brand tomato and pasta soup when all the kidlet wants is a half-dozen 89 cent cans of Campbell's tomato-vegetable is very disheartening, even if the soup with the fru-fru is half what you'd pay if you went to the company website.(She probably wouldn't eat the fancy soup anyway)
Regular stores are beginning to have that problem, also - since August, it takes the local Albertson's and Food for Less longer than a week to restock their food item shelves. And the 99 cent/cheap food stores, where many of my neighbors are finding they have to shop to keep within budget, have been having that problem since gas prices went on their wild ride back in February.
If we get hit with inflation on top of these shortages, there's going to be a lot of misery for people who are living near the edge, not to mention those who have already dropped over the edge or are on fixed incomes. And the small non-chain "cheap" family restaurants or cafes - will they being able to stay in business much longer with inflation and shortages of ? I also see this hitting food pantries. Donations never seem to come from those who wouldn't notice if they gave or not, they tend to come from the middle/working class and small family businesses. The ones now being hurt by inflation.
