Poll question: What does it say about McCain that he wants to get out of the debate?
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 04:31 PM by ColbertWatcher
As you may know, McCain has floated the idea that the debate scheduled for September 26, 2008 should be cancelled.

What does it say about him that he wants to do this?

7. A worn out old man, confused by his own lies, afraid of a better man
He will be humiliated and he knows it. His temper will show and he knows it. He has changed his position so many times on so many issues that he is confused, the campaign has tired him, and he's still got that albatross Palin hung around his neck. Its likely he has simply lost the will to go on.

8. It means he's trying to create a headline/narrative showing him directing events
causing a bailout to happen through his leadership as though he were the indispensable part and showing him "acting", when others just want to be "talking" (in a TV debate).

It's a gimmick, but it could be successful in resetting the voters' perception of him. What they ought to remember is how he has been a Reaganaut suicide bomber for deregulation his entire political life, and they ought to remember that his "philosophy" of laissez-fuck-shit-up is how the umpty-trillion dollar credit crisis was conceived, brought to term, and dropped on our doorstep like an unwanted teenage pregnancy. They ought to remember, but when you rely on TV news to be your memory bank and data processor you tend to remember only the last 15 minutes.

There will be pictures showing McCain "arriving in Washington" and more pictures of him coming and going from "high level meetings" and appearing at the announcement of the final deal. What TV news will remind viewers of is not that he and his party stand for everything that caused this rescue plan to be necessary to begin with, but instead just that it was McCain's own "historic" idea to suspend his own campaign to be in Washington so he could "put his country first". Getting the pictures are what's important, and he will get them.

9. HEY! For five and a half YEARS, that brave hero was not able to choose
whether or not he could participate in a debate, so if he wants to run like a coward now, then...he should go right ahead.

10. I think its a definite ploy
, a parlor trick, to alter his image and make him look like the 'responsible' one of the two...

However, after watching the news channels for awhile today (yea I took the day off, you got a problem with that? :) ) I have some faith that the MSM won't let him get away with this one, even CNN's Blitzer was beating up on him pretty bad earlier.

But, I've been wrong before.
