And the economy hits my family once again...
We've been going through a lot of problems since I got laid off from my computer programming gig at the end of December. We're filing bankruptcy right now, and just got to the point where we can survive on my paycheck at my new job (computer tech, pays half of what I was making before) as well as my wife's part-time human resources job.

Well, yesterday I come home and my wife tells me that she got laid off because the place she works isn't doing so well right now. So we're applying for unemployment and scrambling to figure out how we're going to pay the bills... since we're filing bankruptcy, we have no credit cards to use.

Anyways, I just wanted to rant a little bit... get it off of my mind and onto (virtual) paper.

7. Thanks. I got saved by a friend of my father who owns a small business
doing systems administration for small/medium businesses. Problem is that is doesn't pay very well and doesn't have benefits.

9. I am holding my breath as I watch my retirement fund go down
I just do not know how I will make it if I do not have that income to count on. I will say this. I have always just counted on half of it, so I have always lived under my income.I have a little to play with but at my age this is all very scary. We sure have got what we asked for when people voted in this crazy group in DC. A pile of horse shit dressed up in $3000 suits.

12. That's smart. I wish I hadn't pissed away my income when I was making good money.
That was a serious mistake. We're living fairly simply right now, but I feel that we're going to have to cut even more to make the bills now.

20. I hate to tell you this but I grew up in a very GOP home
My father worked for himself and by 40/5 had to re-tire because of sickness and could. He also paid off his home in less then 4 years right in the middle of the Great Depression. For the times it was a very costly house. He always believed in saving 10 percent of his income. I had a lot of problem living with my husband because of these things I brought in to our life and how he wished to live. My re-tire fund has been to my own doing. It is a trust to my children and I get the income for life. I can find some fault with it now as I have no say to speak off but on the whole I am pleased with it. The 8 percent gone will be back as long as we can keep these people who brought us Enron, do not do the same now as then. Do re-call they were going to fix things then also. How can the same people that made this mess really fix it?????McCain was in with the Saving and Loan thing also. Over sight is not in the works for people who think Govt. is the evil problem.

10. K&R, and I feel so sorry for you and your family!
There's a special place in hell for all the Repukes who dragged our economy into this mess.

But that does nothing to help the people who are suffering now.

11. So sorry to hear of more problems for your family.

My son was laid off twice in 3 years from computer jobs--and quit one job selling cars before he got fired when the sales room traffic dried up when incentives were removed.

I don't know how he does it, but he landed on his feet once again last February when he was hired to do tech support for one of the local town governments nearby. He's making more money and loves this
job because he's getting to do a variety of things. We're hoping that his government job
will be more stable.

Sometimes the sun really does come out tomorrow. Hoping for the best for you.

:hi:

13. My current job is amazing because my boss is a great guy, and flexible with my medical conditions.
I was diagnosed with Celiac's disease after I lost my job... terribly sick for about 3 months straight before the doctors figured out what it was. Apparently, Celiac's disease can lay dormant for years and appear out of the blue because of stress, illness, etc.

At least you know where to begin with the illness.

good luck to you and your family.

18. I'm really sorry....

Good luck. Try to remember that the real you--your true self, your spirit--is not the thing that's having all this happen to you. It's your meat suit and your human brain, not the deep and real and essential you, who are suffering here. But the real you is so much more than that.

Easy for me to say, I know. So really, what I want to say is

22. Thanks!
I'm of the mindset that they can't really do anything to you. They can garnish your wages and stuff, which will suck, but it's not like you're going to jail or anything :)

If only we had free healthcare and decent job standards... and a president who doesn't suck.
