The World's Billionaires (not who you think)
Boy I don't know when this changed, but it sure did. Still, the world's billionaires could give half their money, maybe 1/3 of their money, and cover the $700 billion. Easy. We shouldn't have to do this.

And here's the top ten, no Walton in sight. This explains a lot of the problems we're having.

1 Warren Buffett United States 77 62.0 United States
2 Carlos Slim Helu & family Mexico 68 60.0 Mexico
3 William Gates III United States 52 58.0 United States
4 Lakshmi Mittal India 57 45.0 United Kingdom
5 Mukesh Ambani India 50 43.0 India
6 Anil Ambani India 48 42.0 India
7 Ingvar Kamprad & family Sweden 81 31.0 Switzerland
8 KP Singh India 76 30.0 India
9 Oleg Deripaska Russia 40 28.0 Russia
10 Karl Albrecht Germany 88 27.0 Germany

4. Kuwait, #46
with $14 billion. Mohammed Al Amoudi, Saudi Arabia, #97 with $9 billion. George Soros is #99 with 9 billion.

I'm watching Craig Ferguson and he's exactly right. These people should bail out the system themselves. They wouldn't even miss the money.

5. And Carlyle Group
One of the first things Bush did after 9/11 is lift trade restrictions with India. Carlyle invested heavily in India in the late 90's.

6. I'm not surprised about the Carlyle investment
Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 01:23 AM by fujiyama
but India's liberalized economy has spurned quite a few industrialists. It's impressive, but at the same time, the vast disparity of wealth in that country is very depressing.

BTW, have any links on the Carlyle investments in India?

Also, Bush did remove all trade sanctions soon after 9/11. I think most of those were regarding military equipment and some dual use items.

7. It's where all our money went
The people who got tax cuts invested that money in India and China. You can see that from where the billionaires are. I guess this latest $700 billion is to get every last nickel out of the country.

9. 2 of them are brothers
their wealth is through Reliance which is pretty big in India now. there have been issues with small business people protesting them for putting them out of business. i think Reliance might be like the walmart of india.

one of them owns the largest steel company.

the other one did it through real estate.

a lot of this seems to have happened as India's economy opened up along with a huge gap in wealth.

11. another thing is these people always get together
among themselves deciding the best way to do things at those summits and other things they are always having.

i bet most of them have never even gone into poor areas and talked to people there and seen what it's like there for themselves.
