With any number of significant issues worth addressing with serious journalists, David Letterman gave John McCain a "serious roasting Wednesday night for scrubbing an appearance roughly one hour before the taping." I wouldn't blame either candidate for canceling an appearance with Letterman in favor of almost anyone else, particularly at a time when the country faces a significant economic crisis.

Beyond this, I sure hope Americans have enough depth to evaluate presidential candidates on the basis of their objective stands (yes, on issues such as abortion) and view of justice, civil liberties and economic policy rather than whether or not a Late Night Talk Show host feels snubbed.

What do you think?

1. I think: Fail, "pro-life" blog.
If you cared about "life" at all you'd be taking to the streets demanding an end to the illegal and murderous occupation of Iraq and for universal health care for every single person in the U.S.

There's a lot of people who like Letterman and who will take his comments to heart in their decision making. Sad but true.

Of course, to be honest, Letterman during his "roast" of McCain said a lot of things that many pundits and journalists have said. There was no reason to suspend the campaign. Letterman was more irked that McCain suspended the campaign - as Letterman saw it, essentially quitting for a time - than he was that he got shrugged off. I lost count of all the times Letterman said "You don't just suspend a campaign!", and he raised serious questions about why McCain and his campaign didn't turn to Palin to carry the torch while McCain is in Washington.

All things considered, minus the few rants about him not appearing (though I think him showing the real time McCain at CBS News at the same time was poignant), Letterman made a lot of very valid, very good points.

4. I think they need to get a "life". A life of their own, that is.
They need to mind their own business, and get their face out of my crotch.

The economy is sinking worse than any time since the Depression, we're still wasting lives and money in Iraq, gas and food prices are out the roof, and these jackasses can't get their puny minds off Roe Vs. Wade? Fucking losers.
