1. my SO asked if I wanted her to do the same last night.
I told her that it might not hurt to have a few thousand on hand because people around here tend to get paniced and run on things like gas, groceries, and maybe even money. It would be smart to have some extra on hand, I believe.

7. Does One Transfer The Money In The Form Of A Check Or Do You Have.....
to take it out in cash? If I transfer banks by taking my money in the form of a check from one bank to the other is that ok?

16. I transfered some money
electronically from a financial institution to my bank and also withdrew cash from the bank. Will withdraw some more cash today.

I am not getting it all at once; I'm taking small amounts and putting it away.

4. Just to withdraw enough cash to live on for a month -
just in case. Already moved everything from a money market fund to an FDIC-insured acct at my bank.

Three different banks. I'm taking it all out and holding on to it until this crap gets straightened out.

6. umm, what for?
Like smarty pants said last night, nobody has ever lost a deposit that was insured by the FDIC. If something really bad happens then our currency is going the way of the Reichmark and it's worthless in no matter what form you hold it in.

18. True, but this is a unique
situation and since other safeguards that were put in place after the Depression have been dismantled, how can we be sure FDIC won't be? I still think it's smart to have some cash on hand. Just in case.

9. No...I don't have any money in it anyway
I'm not even quite paycheck to paycheck...Bush's economy has already screwed me over so badly that I'm used to living on rice and beans most of the time. I just hope there's not a run on rice and beans....

Just to panic the fat cats a bit. See if George rolls out the 3rd BCT for "crowd control"

"Step away from the ATM sir or we will tase you!"

13. Yep, gotta put some money in an account so an automatic withdrawal (stock purchase) can go through
My son and I have a joint account that we both contribute to and we have an automatic withdrawal coming up the last day of the month to buy more shares in a mutual fund account we are joint holders of. We started doing it several years ago and now have quite a nice sum stacked up. Sooner or later I'll die and it will be his, both accounts use his SSN. Oh, and yes, the fund is way down, but we don't care a bit - it will come back in time and we can wait.
