What was McShame actually going to do in Washington?
The negotiations are already underway. He wasn't a part of that. A big grandstand vote? That's a nice try since he hasn't voted on anything for a very very very long time, and that doesn't take very long. Make speeches on the steps? Frankly, there are Congress critters who are more involved that would give better interviews. Rail against the poor who made bad loans? We've had about enough of that. Lie about what a big deregulator he was? I can't imagine he can lie anymore than he already does.

I heard someone say this on teevee this morning - until Chimpy added McShame and Obama to the meeting that was already set up with leaders, McShame had nothing to do.

So, why the "emergency", why the "suspension", and why issue talking points before an emergency?

Nothing but a political stunt. Here is a fork, McShame, you're done. And pass it along to Sarah.

1. That was my question too
the guy doesn't know squat about the economy... all he's gonna do is get in the way and mess stuff up.

Oh and hold a press conference.

2. My guess.
The Repukes will fuck around with their voting numbers so that McCain becomes the deciding vote.

6. I Want A Minute By Minute Account Of Everything McCain Does When He's In D.C........
Obama in his statement indicated that he was in touch with the Dems in D.C. and telling them not to tack on anything additional to this bill. He outlined the points that he wants included in order for him to vote for it. He was pulling the strings of his party behind the scenes and asserting his control over his party - which is especially important - if in 2 months he gets elected.

I don't believe that McCain was doing the same thing behind the scenes and now showing up in D.C. to try and look like the guy that saved the day on this is so bogus.

In my humble opinion - McCain is still a POW - only he is being held hostage by his party and his handlers.

8. He is going to rest.
The guy is tired. The schedule he has been keeping is rough on a 30 year old, let alone the oldest man ever to run for U.S. president.

His position on the issues is tired too.

I am hoping that he continues to 'rest up' until Nov. 5. Then he should continue his campaign.

11. Nothing - nothing but photo ops.
Last night, Keith made the same point you mentioned: until Bush called a meeting with Obama and McCain, there was absolutely nothing for him to do but get in the way. The analyst Keith was talking with also pointed out that the meeting will be an empty gesture as well, and that absolutely nothing of substance will happen. There will be no actual talks, just a meet and greet in front of cameras. What a waste of Obama's time... which is probably the real reason why he was included.
