6. Mission Accomplished.
It was intended to scare. If you had been watching the hearings these past few days, you would have heard our Reps begging Paulson and Bernanke, to tell it to the people as it had been told to them. They begged them to lay it out in the same plain, shocking terms that had scared the shit out of them. Paulson/Bernanke seemed not able to do so - they were very esoteric - droning on and on about 'Capital Markets', 'Over Leveraging', 'Liquidity Shortfalls'. The Reps pleaded that their constituents weren't 'getting' how this impacted them and that they had to lay out how bad it would soon be on 'Main Street'.

So they let Bush do it.
