7. Could it be he's trying to maximize early voting results? |
|
Let's face it; The more the public sees of McCain/Palin, the less it likes them. Therefore, by putting off the debates as long as possible, what ever positive image the voters have of Mc/P would translate into early votes for them, before the debates tarnished their images.

9. He's scared to debate. |

His polls are hemorrhaging. Obama wins on every issue.
A debate with Obama now would be a death knell.

Because I think that there is more than one reason why McCain wants to cancel the debate. I think that he is uncomfortable debating Obama at a time when his popularity is decreasing and when Obama seems to be showing his leadership qualities very clearly. McCain is not necessarily scared to debate, but like the "town hall" idea, he wants to do it at a time and in a way that is most beneficial to him. He has little substance to him so environment is everything. You bet he would be pushing hard at a debate if the Democrats had been implicated more plainly for the mess in our financial system. Secondly, I think the his campaign was looking for a way to keep Palin from facing the nation, not to mention Biden, in an arena that was not tightly controlled. Palin is a real liability outside of photo ops and the prepared speeches she gives. I remember the VP debate in 04. Cheney just steamrolled Edwards and made him look like he was not ready for the job. Now John Edwards is infinitely more intelligent and a better leader than Palin could hope to be, but he just couldn't take on Cheney's style. Palin is completely out classed and out gunned by Biden. Other than the "victim" role, Palin has no role to play in a debate scenario. She adds no substance to an already thin ticket. Neither McCain nor Palin are scared. They are to egotistical to be scared. I think the campaign is rightfully scared although their bravado would not indicate it, their positioning certainly betrays them.
