Here's what I don't get about McCain lying to Letterman
What was so f---n' hard about telling Letterman the truth? All he had to say was "I'm sorry, Dave, but because of the financial crisis on Wall Street, I've been asked to appear on the Evening News, so I have to cancel tonight's appearance on your show."

Okay, Letterman *might* still make a snark or two out of that in his monologue, but the way McCain did it only gave Letterman an excuse to keep talking about it AND once he found out the truth via his in-studio monitors, the opportunity to really explode. Plus, it gives everyone else the opportunity to harp on it today.

This is a man who wants to be president & he doesn't even think about how Letterman would play this? :eyes:

BTW, I'm still  over the "YA NEED A RIDE TO THE AIRPORT?" line.

1. I suppose McCain's crew didn't think (again).
They consider Dave to be "media" and that the media will always kiss McCain's ass. Bad assumption.

12. McCain considers Letterman one of "the little people".
It just shows that McCain would rather talk to the "elite" media than to those people like Dave.

2. I thought KO was going to fall out of his chair
Over the "you need a ride to the airport" line

But...and I take issue with this...Letterman first had to spend 20 fucking minutes praising McPOW for being a "true American hero". Christ, first kiss his ass then kick it. I'm so sick and tired of all this "he's a hero" bullshit I could scream.

My brother served in Vietnam -- granted he was not a POW -- but never ONCE in his life has he used that as an excuse for anything bad that's happened to him.

3. Critisizing McLame is un-Patriotic. Any such statements must be
prefaced with praise first.

8. I noticed big gobs of sarcasm in that praise.
I knew he was setting him up for the kill down the line and so he did follow through with it.

13. Like another poster said, it was the set-up
quite a long one, mind you, but the set-up to the punchline nonetheless, which was made sweeter when Dave found out the truth & REALLY got to go to town on it. I loved the "Why not have the VP candidate fill in while you're busy?" series of jokes too.

Never piss off a man who (a) buys ink by the gallon or (b) has his own TV show watched by millions.

4. Their first instinct ALWAYS is to LIE
Blatant LIES is quickly becoming McCain's trademark, hell it is Republican's trademark and McCain is just really lousy at it.

9. True, liars have to lie even when it's not necessary.

It usually leads to their implosion just like this did.

5. The really crazy thing is, did McCain not consider
what Dave might do if he found out he'd been lied to? If McCain didn't expect Dave to at least mention it he must never stay up late enough to actually watch Dave's show. Yeah, piss off a late-night talk-show host known for his biting, sarcastic sense of humor--there's a brilliant move for you. Idiot.

14. McLame has been a frequent guest on Dave's show. I think those days are over.

We can probably now expect to see Obama on there more often.

WTG Crash.
