What's the precise and relevant difference in this context?
After just now having read the definitions to both words, they both appear to have valid usage in this context.

Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 04:36 PM by Dr Fate
Since when do consumers do anything for the economy? They dont deserve rescuing.
We can only "rescue" high dollar banks & such. Apparently all their CEOs & executives just went flat broke and now they need more of my money.

in to the changing of the language that was put forth by a goddamned rethug yesterday. It's Orwellian Newspeak and I'm not going to fucking stand for it whether I'm for the BAILOUT or not.
In fact, I have yet to say one way or the other where I stand on the bailout. I know this, I'm not for pick-pocketing taxpayers and I'm not for destroying the Dollar.
As for your "stupid" comment, what's more stupid than responding out of context? Hooverite? What the fuck is that?

23. Actually, it's the BAILOUT that is reminiscent of Hoover. |
|
I assume you know that he did exactly this (bailed out the banks) about 6 months before the Depression?
And more recently, a similar scenario happened in Japan. The difference there is that Japan was able to recover because they could sell Hondas, Toyotas, Sonys, and Toshibas to the rest of the world.
We don't have anything made in this fucking country any more to sell them.
This is a REPUKE SCAM deliberately designed to hold off the official start of the next Depression until Chimp is out of office so they can blame it all on President Obama.
And to paraphrase Jeremiah Wright, God DAMN America if we let them get away with this shit. :grr:

9. I think here the OP is objecting to the use of the word "rescue" |
|
which was determined to be less offensive to the masses as "bailout". I also find it annoying that the Democrats are buying into this language.

14. That's not the only pile we should toss him on. |
|
Normally I'm all for moderate to conservative Dems keeping seats that would otherwise go to a Republican, but that's not the case with Cuellar. He unseated a real liberal incumbent in the primaries, probably through fraud, with the help of the Bush cronies in Texas. His district will never go to a Republican, so it is only a question of which type of Dem holds the seat.
Toss him on the history heap the next chance we get. There's no use for him anywhere.

I'm hoping there's a Libertarian on the ballot so I can vote for that person instead of leaving my ballot blank there. But if enough people do this, Cuellar's in trouble.

7. Boxer actually did fairly well. |
|
She was talking to Ronn Owens on KGO and although she did use the dreaded "R" word, she showed courage saying that she wasn't going to do anything until she read all the details and made sure that any plan was supporting the average person and not Wall Street. She made sure to repeat that she would not hesitate to vote against the Bill if it didn't help the people.

11. She was just on Ed Schultz calling it a bailout. She did great talking about |
|
McCain wanting a time-out to crawl into a corner with a blankie and bringing up the Keating 5.
She did good even if she used one wrong word. She was actually discussing the bailout v. rescue language on Schultz and saying it was a bailout.

19. Sometimes in a debate you frame things using their language |
|
in order to weaken the word itself. I didn't see Boxer, but for instance someone can constantly repeat "We don't need this rescue, it's too costly," or something, thus giving the word a different connotation when the other side uses it again. If we make the word "rescue" mean "expensive, ineffective, giveaway," then they don't get a free ride on it.

25. Here's my latest to Senator Boxer |
|
Three weeks ago the country was so broke we couldn't even bring up the idea of universal healthcare, but let Wall Street hiccup and suddenly the money supply is limitless.
Government's only function these days seems to be making sure the rich stay rich.
Have you not learned that when the republicans are in a hurry to pass something, it is very likely to be bad? You know, like that Iraq War Resolution and the Patriot Act?
Want to help somebody? Pass a bill that caps interest rates, locks ARMS, freezes foreclosures, busts monopolies and HEAVILY regulates the financial industry.
But, please not one thin dime to help make rich crooks richer.
Thank you, MP

But actually, pal, we are rescuing the idiots who pushed for deregulation.
We are rescuing the Bush administration and Republicans from the results of their dumb policies.
They were sinking fast. They are incompetents that need to be rescued from time to time.
