Senator Whitehouse just proposed usury laws in the senate
and said he will be introducing legislation to make that happen in the near future. Cool.

1. Usury is soundly condemned in the bible. I have always wondered why
the RW is so supportive of it........

2. Very interesting thought. I've always wondered how bankers who tend
to be very conservative and "christian" can support charging people interest.

5. every state in the union has laws against excessive interest
but the amount that's considered usurious varies from state to state.
also, the laws don't apply to all forms of lending (e.g., payday loans)
and they can be sometimes be circumvented by charging additional "fees" instead of interest.

i like the idea of some national standardization.

8. Anything above ten percent should be a crime.
It was when I was young and could never understand why it was changed.
