The new "Greatest" page format has killed diversity of topics on DU
Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 02:53 PM by n2doc
It used to be that the Greatest page had posts from a variety of different subject groups. Sure, GD and GD: P dominated, but interesting side subjects in Environment, Health, Science, even Photography would show up and usually be really interesting. Look at the "Greatest" page now: nothing but GD, GD: P, LBN and Videos, and all of those are on politics/economy. Makes DU a less diverse, and I would argue, a more monotonous place.

2. Precisely. I now hesitate even visiting the "greatest" page
That's really a shame because it used to be the first place I went every time I logged on to DU.

3. I think we need to give this new system a little time. The economy and
the election happen to be HEAVILY on lots of minds right now. Maybe that is the reason you're not seeing the diversity.

4. I don't agree
When to get on the Greatest page takes 25+ top recs (more if the subject is controversial) my experience has been that non-political threads attain that level extremely rarely. And threads disappear really fast, even with 10-20 recs.

What I have also seen is that threads often have to hit a threshold of20+ recs, then they take off and get 40- or more. But they have to be seen long enough to get there if it doesn't happen immediately.
