America's Financial Crisis Financial Crisis Effect on Kansas City

Up to Date, September 23, 2008: After a week of bank failures, buyouts, a stock market that seems to take a daily ride on the most adrenaline-pumping roller coaster, a proposed $700 billion government rescue plan, and a lot of people on Wall Street and in Washington losing sleep over the downward spiral, how are things here at home in the Kansas City region?

Steve Kraske welcomed J. Mariner Kemper, chairman and CEO of UMB Financial Corporation, Kevin G. Barth, executive vice president of the Commercial Line of Business for Commerce Bancshares, Inc. and President and Chief Operating Officer for Commerce Bank, Kansas City Region and Bill Black, an associate professor of law and economics at UMKC to discuss what sectors of this area’s economy have been most affected by the shock waves coming from our financial and political centers.

We looked at what local banks are seeing and hearing from their customers, what impact the financial storm will have on area residents and businesses, and discussed what it may mean to the Kansas City area’s economic health.
