Ohio boy fights for right to wear make-up to school

HAMILTON, Ohio (WLS) -- An eighth grade boy from Hamilton, Ohio, is fighting a school ban over wearing makeup to class.

Thirteen-year-old Matt Allsup wears black eye makeup, lipstick and fingernail polish. Matt's mom supports her son's choice. They point out that every student at Matt's school is required to wear a character badge pledging to value uniqueness in others.

But school administrators say Matt's makeup is against dress code and a distraction.

"None of my classmates found it distracting or anything and it's not extreme. I don't see why I can't wear it," said Matt Allsup, wears makeup.

1. Oh, I think it's so cute when boys wear makeup. Good luck to him!

2. Here's a partial pic from the site:

If the school has a specific dress code about makeup, I hope the same standards apply to the girls (black lipstick, etc).

5. I completely agree. The dress code for boys and girls should be the same. Period.

Edited to add:

HOWEVER, it would have to be a pretty laid-back school for dress per the pic posted here to not be disruptive on either one.

7. if the kids in the school don't find it a distraction, who cares
I find it hard to believe that every kid is o.k. with this...sooner or later some boy is going to make fun of him and then probably will be the end of his emo/goth phase at school anyway.

8. Honestly, this is their biggest problem in their school district right now?

It's not a huge thing. Look at Marilyn Manson and David Bowie.

Making a big deal out of it is stupid and that IS distracting.

10. There's a RIGHT to wear make-up to school?
Where does that right appear in the Constitution? LOL.

1. Kids are not adults.

2. Schools need to maintain order and discipline.

3. There is no "right" to wear make-up.

4. I hate stupid stories like this. Like the idiot kid wearing the Obama terrorist t-shirt.
