Sexist Men Earn More Money: Study

Everyone's heard about a gender wage gap, where men earn more than women. But what about a sexism wage gap?

According to a new study, published by the Journal of Applied Psychology, men who hold traditional views of women earn more than men with more egalitarian views — a lot more.

Researchers from the University of Florida analyzed interviews conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics from 1979 to 2005 of nearly 13,000 men and women. The participants were interviewed four times over the course of 25 years about their views on gender roles in the workforce and at home. Researchers looked at this data as a predictor of earnings and found that men who said they had more traditional gender role attitudes made on average $11,930 more annually than men in comparable jobs who had less traditional attitudes.

"We weren't surprised there was a difference, we were surprised by the magnitude of the difference," said Timothy Judge, an organizational psychologist at the University of Florida and co-author of the study.

and that generally means they elbow their way right into the Peter Principle, rising to the level of their incompetence.

1. Sexist men keep their little women at home so they push harder for that big paycheck, is one reason.

2. Like attracts like, so sexist men tend to congeal at corpies where they pay each other well.

yes.... in a two parent home with only one working statistically the person earns more than others where both are working. he can totally focus on job, isnt distracted, less stress and so much more. can that make some sense to you

I was also lucky to stay at home for a year supported by my beautiful beloved when I hated my job so much I thought I would defenestrate myself.

I meant it the way a sexist man would think of it. One of the reasons I hated my job was because I worked as the sole woman alone with a bunch of sexist swine... the constant pissing contest, take no enemies kind of guys. They referred to their wives often in the "little women" vein. Worse than that, usually.

Actually, the article talks about "traditional" one wage roles, and there's a difference.

On the other side of the coin, if for some reason I were supporting mine, which I would do in a heartbeat if something happened, I'd be pushing hard for that bigger paycheck too.

make a point of marrying "helpmeet" type women who do all the dirty work at home, leaving the man free to scale the corporate heights. Sexist men never have to worry about dirty diapers, etc. As far as STAYING HOME with a sick kid...fuggetaboutit! The little woman stays home with the kid if anyone does.
