I've seen marble sculptures with more personality than this guy. Yikes.

2. He just got over a serious bout with cancer and chemo
He's never been an engaging speaker, but the disease and treatment definitely made him look like, as they used to say down south, "death eating a cracker" for a while. Maybe that's what you are reacting to.

7. It's not his appearance so much that bothers me...
It's the lifeless droning. Even if I agreed with him, I'd have trouble listening.
