Kirk (McCain) vs Picard (Obama) |
|
Listening to Pat Buchanan last night in the followup to the debates, he referred to McCain as the 'Mean One' and Obama as the 'Gentlemen'.
It just called to mine the debates over Kirk vs McCain.
Kirk, the shoot-from-the-hip-damn-the-prime-directive-muscle-before-brains. Pircard, the diplomatic-intelligent-negotiator-carry-a-big-stick.
In tnis country, where the macho pick-a-fight everything-is-a-sporting-event it's a shame that too many love the brute over the diplomate.
If John McCain can't look Obama in the eye (per Buchanan 'because he doesn't LIKE him'), just how is he going to handle Putin and others? Can you really just condescend to an opponent with empty rhetoric and vieled threats and think they're going to back down?
Diplomacy, negotating, sincerety, honesty, and forthrightness.
From last night, who would YOU like as leader of the free world? The sighing-condescending-giggling 'Sherrif' of days gone past or the confident Gentlemen who can calmly negotiate and discuss complex issues without use of soundbytes?
It's a shame this Presidential race is so close.

2. Very interesting analogy... although I like both characters better than |
|
McCain...
STNG's major problem was early Wesley. BLECH!
Anyway, I think Kirk would, at least, look a Klingon in the eye.

3. you clearly never watched TOS |
|
and have a child's remembrance of TNG.
Thus, your metaphor fails. The metaphor you are looking for is that of the alternate universe, in which Evil Kirk is played by John McCain (selfish, lying, impulsive) while Good Kirk is played by Barack Obama (compassionate, confident, thoughtful).
