As posted before, the MICAH Project and American in Solidarity to counter the rampant voter purging and caging being done by the Republican Party, is declaring October 1st as NATIONAL GUARANTEE YOUR VOTE DAY. By participating you commit to check on line, by phone or in person with your local or state elections officials to make sure that you are STILL eligible to vote in this years presidential election.
We ask that all participating blogs, groups, individuals and organizations on that day contact their members/supporters via email, text or blog to remind them to check on their voting status and to spread the word. This is in light of the fact that:
---In New Jersey, 300,000 people who thought they were registered to vote found out they their names have been either purged from the rolls or never entered in the first place.
---In Michigan, folks who have had their homes entered into foreclosure have been told that they will be stricken from the voting rolls.
---In Wisconsin, the Republican Attorney General has sued the state elections board to remove 20% of the voters from the rolls, mainly in the state's two largest counties.
---In Ohio, in 2006 303,000 were purged from the rolls in three major urban counties and this year another 600,000 were threatened.
---In Virginia, the AFL-CIO reported that the Republican Party deliberately mislead students as to where they could register or vote.
Let us make sure that this election is decided by the people and not by machines or voter witch hunts. This is a matter of justice. With out integral elections we risk sinking into anarchy and becoming a third world nation.
How can you help? By endorsing this action individually or as a group. Spreading the world, putting this message out on October 1st. and MOST all making sure your registration is STILL valid. Just because you think it is, doesn't mean that it is!
