Act Now, Say No To Paulson Plan, Yes To Sanders Plan
It is very likely Congress will shove a Paulson Plan down our throats and expect us to bail out the fat cats who manufactured this economic disaster. This could be decided by Monday as they are working through the weekend to handle this "emergency" (do the right thing for their banking bosses, not for us).

I am using my friend's letter below to urge people to sign on to the Sanders Plan which will alleviate much of the burden off of us tax-paying little folks. Please sign on at the link and send the info out to all your contacts. I am posting this on a few websites as well. This is a really big situation and if there is any chance we can keep them from going with the Paulson (snake) plan then we need to act now.

Thanks!

We are in the midst of an economic crisis. Decisions are being made in Congress this weekend that will affect us for decades to come. The Wall Street bailout not only transfers debt from the super rich to average Americans, it won't solve the problem. Here is an excellent explanation of why that is so:

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article20828.htm

It is imperative that we take action right now to pressure our Senators and Representatives to do the right thing, and to not cave into the Bush Administration's demands.

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont has an excellent plan. Please go to this page and read about his plan.

http://www.sanders.senate.gov/issues/crisis.cfm

Sign the letter he links to. Then, most importantly, contact your Senators and Representatives immediately and urge them to adopt his plan. Monday will be too late. You may find their voicemail boxes are full, or they don't accept messages. Try email. Contact them every way you possibly can. Contact them now, and urge everyone you know to do so also. Please feel free to forward this email, or use any part of it you wish.

Thank you,
XXXXXX

36. I fantasize about us becoming a country that would proudly
proclaim Peace again on our currency and coin. Peace Silver Dollars were first struck as a symbol of America's desire for worldwide peace after "the war to end all wars." I love the Peace Dollar.

Isn't she beautiful? Somewhat Art Deco... Very different from other coins.

14. First, the Paulson plan is no longer on the table in any recognizable form
Second, there is no way to pass Sanders' plan in a bipartisan fashion, and skittish blue dogs + the GOP makes for 249 votes in the House, which would cause it to fail.

Finally, any plan is unlikely to save off all the bleeding, and when the downturn continues into November, the GOP need to be associated with the bailout in some significant way or they will use it as a craven political bludgeon.

I get where people are coming from posting these superior plans, but what chance do they have? What are our options realistically?

16. Try sending to your rep
And let him/her know you like it, it doesn't hurt, and its better than giving up, the people are shouting loud and strong on this, left, right, middle. We're still in a world of hurt, but give a voice, if everyone did we'd not be asking what our options are, we'd be demanding them!

23. Democrats have no negotiation skills.
The thing is that if we start in the middle we just get pushed further right. This party needs to toughen up and learn to negotiate. When the republicans bring their Paulsen plan to the table we shouldn't say "uh, well, maybe we needs some safeguards...". No, you say "fuck, no, we're not doing this! period."

Yes, we will have to be realistic as we negotiate, but you don't start by giving away the farm. Republicans keep winning time after time because they understand how to do this and we don't.

The American people are angry and they are saying "no!!!"

The American people are finally behind us. Why on earth would we caved on or compromise now? The people have finally turned on and rejected the whole rotten free market libertarian right wing idiocy. If we as Democrats fail to step into leadership on this now, we lose all moral authority and abrogate any right to lead again on anything, or to even be taken seriously.

You can't compromise between the desires of the thief and the desires of his victim. "Agree to letting me rob you, and I will let you keep your coat" is still the same rip off.

"Give me everything, or I won't be able to return anything to you and then you will have nothing" - that is what we are being told.

19. Kicked, recommended and signed. I wish the Democrats would for once stand firm.
Do the right thing, or don't do anything. Their job isn't to capitulate on legislation that will harm the country. This bullshit about, "well it won't pass if we leave this in," is just that - bullshit. If what is being taken out will help the country, and what's left in will hurt it, then let the legislation fail. You have to compromise on tactics, but not on principle.
