A bone for the atheists amongst us after the debate |
|
I am agnostic, and I agree with this definition: "An agnostic does not deny the existence of God and heaven but holds that one cannot know for certain whether or not they exist."
After the debate I turned to my fiancee and stated. If Obama is NOT elected President of the United States, then there is absolute proof in my doubting agnostic mind that there is No God. At that point I will become a professed atheist. In addition of course I will be actively seeking to leave the United States.

1. The clincher for you should have occured long ago... |

like in 2000 and again in 2004.
I read a great quote which paraphrased, went something like this;
George Bush is held in high esteem by many because he says he "Talks to God". If he had said "I talk to God through my hair dryer" most would think him nuts. It is my opinion that the removal of the hair dryer does nothing to make him any less so.

We must ALL seek oneness with the Lord through the sacred hair dryer.

however I am a stubborn agnostic, feeling that the pendulum of balance would swing back at least as far as it has swung forward into absurdity in 2000 and 2004 metaphysically speaking. That the conditions call for someone such as Obama who is absolutely the right man at the right time.
It is this probably equally absurd thought of underlying optimism despite perhaps all reasons why there should not be any.
I think the word better described is "Hope". Without it, there is the stark reality of .. well reality. As stark as a 1000 mile meteor making it's way towards the planet earth with no hope of diversion.

5. You should never mix politics and your spirituality/religion. |
|
That's just crazy. Your spirituality should be more personal and more sacred to you than that. Who gets elected should have NOTHING to do with your personal relationship with God or a higher power. Mixing state and church is a recipe for disaster..... look at Iran.

that have been cooked and served and forced down our throats my friend. If McInsane wins, along with Palin the brain impaler, then the meteor I talked about in the previous post might as well be coming our way. One questions their beliefs under such circumstances. Well all except for those who think Jesus is going to come and sweep them all up to heaven.

much, much worse times than having McSame elected president. I mean you can do what you want obviously, but I just think the idea of tying your spirituality to external events is a little superficial.

with Dispensationalist nonsense and anti Christian politics parading as religion should have convinced you already.
If the god of the Hebrews existed, they would be only smoking pairs of Guccis with the peal of thunder fading in the distance.

however, agnostic does not necessarily mean that I have some sort of doubting belief in the god of the Hebrews.
That belief, that you have correctly shown to be beyond any hope for proof has already been removed from my decision process. LOL.

8. Don't blame god for the actions of man. |
|
That's a Republican trick. They think their actions are god's will.
(Little shout out to Tracy Chapman for my paraphrasing)

What about blaming man for the so called actions of God? Atheism looks more palatable all the time!

I had the money to leave in 2002. Instead I stayed, tried having a home and buisness and got screwed by a combination of bad economy, Chinese imports, and dishonest mortgage brokers.
I'm still kicking myself for not leaving then.
As for god(s), as a spiritual practioner, I have no idea whether they exist or whether they are simply parts of my psyche, but working with those elements has made me happier and stronger, if not exactly rich. I refuse to blame the god(s) for the existance of republicans-who demonstrate daily their lack of any sort of real spiritual connection. If they had real spiritual connection they would not be stuck in their narrow view. Any one who professes total assurance in the existence or non existence of god(s)based on outer political events is not delving into their psyche the way they should. Agnosticism is really the only sane way to be.

14. Or it could mean that God exists and is a vicious jerk |

with a nasty sense of humor.
I'm an atheist, so I don't have a stake in such a debate. Still, I have to point out that there are many more than two possibilities. If you think there are only two, you're falling into the same logical trap that caught Pascal.

15. Correct! There are endless possibilities! |
|
For instance, cockroaches are really the chosen ones on this planet, and we are only in the way of their dominion. In this case, McInsane and Palin the intellectual impaler are sure to win the elections and they will be correct that it was God's will!
In fact, all of the efforts we as a species are currently undertaking to destroy our own survival, points to their ultimate takeover and the Republicans are all really working as channels for this grand plan.
As the hairdryer whispers commands that could be from none other then God, you can see a cockroach scuttling into a dark corner of the room. I could take it further with regards to the notion of the second coming but that would be in extremely poor taste.
