Deflecting blame to sidestep responsibility or avoid scrutiny.

Recently I started compiling a list of ways that people use to avoid talking about the truth.

The two are very obvious, if you question Republican policy decisions, the respondent is quick to point out that it's not one person's views you're attacking, but America, so leave America if you don't like it.

The second is obviously, Christianity. They claim they're Christians, which seems to give them a wide berth to do and say unChristianlike things.

The newest thing if you question them is to say that you're looking backward, not forward. In other words, don't look too hard at their mistakes, but focus on the mess they made and how we're going to get out of it.

The next thing is to create an orphan argument. That's sort of a cross between a strawman and orphan, which is something no one would consider hurting. At one time, it was a token minority in a position of power. The individual was just a talking head for the right. Think Clarence Thomas, Gonzo and Ann Coulter. The other thing is to manipulate kids to do things that they might be able to get away with, that no adult could.

Then, of course, there's the, "You can't kick me when I'm down." when all else fails.

Anyone else pick up on another pattern?

I use to have a signature that read something like: No one told us, no one could predict it, it's never happened before. I just wonder, were they really that stupid and did they really think this was acceptable?
