Looks like they have a deal in Congress.

Will there be blowback?

If so, against whom?

1. That's the thing with chaos, you can never tell.
But we sure as hell know who's going to come out with another huge pile of free money.:grr:

3. Depends. Nobody wants to be the responsible party for doing this, but
there is nobody on either the R or D side that will say we should just do nothing. Krugman and Buffett think there should be SOME sort of rescue action, and I think they're both credible. Dodd is pretty credible too. I am very suspicious of House Reps suddenly decrying the bailout, because you just know who they work for, and it ain't us.

10. I agree.
Either way they go on this somebody is not going to be happy. Whether it works or no we will probably not know for months down the road, after the election. Is the crisis as bad as they say? Who really knows, but if nothing is done, and people lose their jobs, or are unable to get credit, then some of the same people who are against this bailout now, will be pissed because "nothing" was done!

As for the republicans in the house, well I think their complaints are two fold. One was to help McCain, but the main reason was to try and push their agenda of "LESS" regulation into the bill. They are working for the big corporations, and it's obvious that those who lobby for the big money in this country were pulling some strings to get that.

I don't like the idea of helping those rich bastards anymore than most americans do, but I sure would hate to see millions of job lost, homes lost, and people unable to get credit to keep their small business going. Only time will tell if it was the right thing to do or not.

13. Yep--when they suddenly brought up their "deregulate" and "lower corporate taxes"
shenanigans very late in negotiations, everyone should have realized that the GOPers in the House were playing games and not interested in solving the actual crisis.

5. I think your concern is very realistic.
The Dems had best be careful on this one. Fortunately, they seem to be following the lead of the most politically skilled person they have on the issue. That person is, of course, Obama. He has displayed an absolute genius for putting together astute and effective plans. I trust his acumen more than that of any Democrat in my lifetime, and there have been some good ones in my lifetime. Tip O'Neill, JFK, some others.

6. I think the blowback should be directed at EVERY incumbent.
You cannot for a moment get me to believe that this whole thing was a surprise to our "honorable" so-and-so's OR our "esteemed coleagues".

Those fuckers knew damn well what was coming and knew it a long time ago. They let it happen anyway.

11. You are right.
And the only way to make sure this never happens again, is to get those who let it happen out of office, no matter what party they are in. I don't think we can make the needed changes in D.C. just by putting Obama in office, we also need to get new faces in congress who will work to protect the people of this country, and not the big corporations that run things now. In order to do that we need to get good honest people who can help make the need changes in congress.

7. If both parties vote for it, it will be just another reaming of the middle class.
Corporations trump We the People.

However, if dems vote yes & repubs vote no, we'll lose some significant seats & maybe the most important one of all.

I have a really bad feeling about this. I worry we're being played.

The Trillion Dollar Wrong Thing

snip...

Reason #1 to be suspicious of the Big Big Bailout, is George Bush.

This is not a Bush bash, it's actually an analysis.
All major George Bush initiatives, and most of the minor ones too, have certain things in common.

#1: They're failures.
#2: They leave a big mess for other people to clean up. Someday.
#3: They make matters worse.
#4: Some small group of people profit from it, and they profit hugely.
#5: That profit comes from using the government to take money from ordinary people and give it to people who are already very rich and well connected.
