I suppose “ENOUGH!” could mean different things to different people. As for me, mostly it’s that I’ve had enough of government of the corporation, by the corporation, and for the corporation. I’ve had enough of:
a) Being expected, as a private citizen, to accept the responsibility of my own actions, including bad decisions, but to be willing to bail out wealthy Wall Street types when they make bad decisions. I understand that market failures will ultimately affect us all negatively, and that the government needs to do something. But, going forward (and I credit Bernie Sanders for this observation), if a corporation is too big to fail, it’s just too damn big, and government needs to address that.
b) Energy policies that result in some of us having to decide between buying gas and buying groceries. We’re paying record high gas prices at the same time oil companies are making record profits. What’s wrong with that picture? And now we’re opening up offshore drilling areas to these clowns? Why aren’t they drilling on the lands they’re already leasing? And, if they ever do begin to produce, what guarantee do we have that the U.S. would be the only consumer? They’ll sell to the highest bidder, and based on the state of our economy, it probably won’t be us.
c) Having the issue of global warming being pretty much ignored. I’m not willing to watch the polar bears and penguins drown their way into extinction because the ice caps are no longer there. This challenge needs to be addressed, and as soon as possible, or else it will become just one more serious crisis for which this country will not be prepared.
And, finally, I’ve had enough of a news media that focuses more on whatever titillating morsel of an insignificant story is currently making the rounds than on news that really matters. I for one don’t give a damn what Paris Hilton is doing, or who’s winning on American Idol. I want to know about issues that will affect my life and the lives of future generations. The public airwaves are financed by us taxpayers, and we deserve better service from those who are being allowed to use them.
Anyway, thanks for letting me rant. For anyone who may be interested, I used the Arial Black 300 pt. font for the sign. A few other people have asked me to make signs for them, so maybe we’ll start a trend. And I figure that if anyone happens to recall that Obama has used “Enough!” at times during his speeches, so much the better (here in New York State Obama campaign signs are not easy to find).
