SC Mayor 'just curious' if Obama is antichrist

FORT MILL, S.C. -- Fort Mill Mayor Danny Funderburk says he was “just curious” when he forwarded a chain e-mail suggesting Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama is the biblical antichrist. “I was just curious if there was any validity to it,” Funderburk said in a telephone interview. “I was trying to get documentation if there was any scripture to back it up.”

Funderburk apparently sent the e-mail from his business account at Gastonia Sheet Metal where he works as a business agent.
The e-mail, which has circulated in the last six months since Obama secured the Democratic nomination, claims the biblical book of Revelation says the antichrist will be in his 40s and of Muslim ancestry.
There is no such scripture. And Obama is not a Muslim. But that hasn’t stopped the e-mail.
The urban legend Web site Snopes.com first exploded the myth in March. Funderburk forwarded the e-mail this month.

When asked if he believed Obama was the antichrist, Funderburk replied, “I’ve got absolutely no way of knowing that.”
Funderburk said it “probably does give that impression” that he believed the e-mail was true “but that was not my intent.”
The mayor said it was a mistake not to include a subject line when he forwarded the chain e-mail.
“I am curious about current events and their connection to the Bible,” he said.

Now that I've gotten that out of my system,
a little scripture.. just for those who have a need to know.

First of all, there is absolutely NO book in the New Testament
called "Revelations." No. None. Nada.

There is a book titled "The Revelation to St. John."
Revelation. Singular. No "s" on the end. And this poor book has been
misread and misused to enflame people against one another.
Shame on them!

But then where is the proof that Obama is the antichrist?
Not in the book called the bible!

Class, turn in your bibles to the first letter to John, found near the
end of the NEw Testament.

I John, chapter 2, verse 18...
John writes: "Children, it is the last hour! As you have heard that
antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. From this we
know it is the last hour. (As to all those references to the 'last hour,'
and to the 'end times' in the Bible; many in the early church thought
the end of the world was coming any day, during their lifetime. This
made people fall into line quite readily. Seems like that trick still
works these days..)

Same chapter, verse 22: "Who is the liar, but the one who denies that
Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the
Father and the son. (That is it: the antichrist is simply an agnostic,
or an atheist. Not the son of satan.)

Turn to I John, chapter 4, verse 3:
"Every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not of God.
And this is the spirit of the antichrist of which you have heard
that it is coming; and now it is already in the world."

Turn to John's 2nd letter, verse 7:
"Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those
who do not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh; any
such person is the deciever and the antichrist!"

That is it. That's all the bible says about this person called
the 'antichrist.' There is NO reference to his race, nor his
religion. There is no flaming raging reference to politics.

It is simply a diatribe from a religious leader against anyone
who denied that Jesus is the Christ. And as you read, there have been
many of that description.... maybe even someone you know!
In my life, I've known many antichrists.

I am aghast at the stupidity of the american people.
They believe anything any two-bit preacher says.
Of course, there are many shysters in clerical collars,
I've known quite a few myself, and I myself wear a clerical collar.

But I also cast blame on many citizens who consider themselves
informed and educated. Anyone can read the actual bible themselves,
and easily debunk this crapola.
