would you critique my ltte?not my usual rant
Edited on Wed Mar-14-07 08:46 PM by w8liftinglady
I want to take a step back from my usual political rants, and share a moment of beauty.I was driving down I-20 in downtown Dallas, when I observed 2 well-dressed African-American men on the side of the road. One had his arm around a haggard, elderly homeless man,who was resting his head on the well-dressed man's shoulder. The other man was holding a Burger King bag and a drink, offering it to the man.In our busy lives,we forget what being a member of the human race means, regardless of your religion,or lack of.We must look after the weakest, the least of us.Our poor, our sick, our children, our elderly-they define us as a country.I am grateful to these men for reminding me why I so vocally voice my dissent, why I became a Democrat after years as a Libertarian. We are defined by the treatment of those who have the least-not those who have the most.

3. w8liftinglady...thank you for that
You are right...it is so hard sometimes to remember that we are only as strong as our weakest member, it is up to us to help our neighbors, strangers and friends.

We have been continually pounded by the lawbreaking of the Necons that it is hard to see what is truely right in this Country.

I have to say that for all of our quibbles, and disagreements and sometimes outright pissiness, DU is a family that has managed to rally around each of our members when they are suffering a loss or angst.

Spread the love and the caring...my friends:grouphug:

4. Nice to remind us and nice of those guys helping the man
I have been a democrat all my life and one reason is because of the deep conviction that we are our brother's keeper and we are the party of helping.

5. Certainly not something you see every day
Which is a shame.

Earlier this evening I was on my way to do some shopping and stopped at an intersection. There was a man panhandling, which is common in this area. However what made him stick out from the others I normally see was his condition--very haggard looking, long scraggly hair and beard and very dirty clothes. I got out a $5 bill and held it out to him. He came to get it and thanked me profusely, at which time I noticed the profoundly tired, lost look in his eyes.

I almost burst into tears right in front of him.

8. There is really nothing I can add to this.
It is excellent in its sentiment and the clarity and morality of the view it presents. I would offer only one small suggestion by way of readability (probably it's just a typo), but you might want to change "... regardless of your religion,or lack of" to "lack thereof." I see now that Dictionary.com preferentially hyphenates it to "there-of," but I guess I'm more of an old school person myself. In any case, it is a letter easily in accord with your usual high standards.

But it really doesn't matter. "The least among us" is what the Bible says.

you so? If you did I'm sorry, I missed it.

If I were as moved as you to write about it, I would have stopped and talked with these men. Did you?

I know exactly the area of town you are talking about, I applaud you for all your LTTE's.

You are living in a very small town with a very small paper, but kudos to you anyway.

Bring your passion, energy and good works to Dallas. okay.,....?
