Bush Admin Emails Contradict Sworn Testimony

Bush Admin Emails Contradict Sworn Testimony
Washington Post | Dan Eggen | March 15, 2007

In testimony on Jan. 18, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales assured the Senate Judiciary Committee that the Justice Department had no intention of avoiding Senate input on the hiring of U.S. attorneys.

Just a month earlier, D. Kyle Sampson, who was then Gonzales's chief of staff, laid out a plan to do just that. In an e-mail, he detailed a strategy for evading Arkansas Democrats in installing Tim Griffin, a former GOP operative and protege of presidential adviser Karl Rove, as the U.S. attorney in Little Rock.

2. I think its time to start constructing the Gallows in front of the Capitol
Three could hang at a time. Should take about a week to exact punishment on every criminal republican in Washington.

3. The stage is set for a "Republican Hero" to take the cabal down.
Who will defy their boss and fulfill that role? It really won't take more than a few principled people who were not aware of the depths of corruption.

a pool of senators whose seats are vulnerable and are up for re-election in 2008. That'll surely instill some "principle".

6. Off you go now, to the greatest page!
Maybe Speedy had a flashback and thought Specter still chaired the Judiciary Committee.

It's hard to believe Speedy didn't know about Sampson's plan but is there anything that proves it that he did? Was he included on distribution of an email that conveyed this information?

forget smoking gun analogies - the US Attorney scandal - GonzoGate - isn't going to go away anytime soon and that's bad for Repukes - because as the light of day shines on them even some of the infamous BASE are going to taste bile rising.

13. one line of questioning I'd like to see
I'd like Sampson to be called up before the Judiciary Committee and asked about his working relationship with Gonzales. It is inconceivable to me that as Chief of Staff he wouldn't have let his boss know his role in the dismissals of the prosecutors, if not during the entire process, certainly after it became a public controversy. Also, as Chief of Staff, he almost certainly would've been involved in the development of Gonzales' testimony before the Committee in January -- the testimony that turns out to be utter BS.

I'd like to see Sampson asked whether he typically was involved in the development of, and was familiar with, testimony that his boss presented. Was he involved with the January testimony? If not, why not? If so, did he simply sit quietly by and allow his boss to come up with a position that he knew was untrue?

And then, after he testifies, I'd like to see Gonzo back in the hot seat explaining that, assuming Sampson claims that he never told Gonzo about his role, even to the point of allowing Gonzo to go up to the Hill and make false and misleading statements, why in the world didn't Gonzo fire his ass instead of allowing him to stay on the DOJ payroll while he seeks other employment? Heck, I'd like to see someone ask Gonzo if he would give Sampson a favorable job recommendation?

16. It's exhausting keeping up with these corrupt bastards.
Edited on Thu Mar-15-07 11:29 AM by TWriterD
Corrupt incestuous bastards, that is:

"Sampson, who resigned on Monday as the e-mails and memos came to light, has hired a lawyer, Bradford A. Berenson, who worked under Gonzales in the White House counsel's office from 2001 to 2003. Sampson also worked there during most of that time."

And if "it's very rare to actually have prosecutions for lying to Congress," what the hell is left? It's certainly a sad lesson for "the children" we hear so much about.

29. With all that's gone down in the last few days, the Scooter Libby conviction seems ages ago
Was it really just one week ago? And the Democrats in Congress have only had the subpoena power for about 6 weeks. What will the list of uncovered scandals be like in 6 months?

20. Gonzales lied to Congress about warrantless wiretaps, said there was none
when he knew that it was going on. The GOP Congress gave him a pass on this one. He is a serial liar, has thumbed his nose at Congressional oversight again and again and will continue to do so.

He should be impeached so that every crimina act that he has commited as AG becomes known.
