Wingnut-disappointing actors VOIGHT, James WOODS, HOPPER
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 11:53 AM by UTUSN
O'LOOFAH and LIMBOsevic are doing commercials and endorsements for "An American Carol," which has a cast of wingnuts. This David ZUCKER of Airplane! and Naked Gun movies. What the eff went wrong with him?!1 Or any of these wingnut actors?!1

How do they reconcile their drugged up selves (GRAMMER, HOPPER) with their supposedly upright wingnuttiness?

GRAMMER is not a disappointment, I always detested him. But WOODS was dead-on in his Roy COHN movie, exposing the dead soul of the wingnut and the hypocrisy.

I don't know that NIELSEN is a wingnut, just that his career was boosted by this ZUCKER f***er. WOODS is a longtime wingnut. What the eff happened to HOPPER (to make him a wingnut)?!1 I saw him on the Graham NORTON show a couple of months ago, and, for all his attempt at being an artiste (and artist of the painting sort), he was a dud, no personality, no wit, NORTON ran circles around him. All he had to offer was a couple of druggie tales.

1. Anyone notice how the most irreponsible jerk actors become wingnuts?
Hopper, Voight and Grammer all have long and involved drug addiction histories. James Woods is just, well, nuts.

Where in the hell is Quahog, RI?
James Woods graduated from Pilgrim HS in Warwick, RI.
An old Girlfriend's mom went to the prom with him and told he was all hands and insisted upon "payment" for the night.

40 years in Rhode Island. I have never HEARD of Quahog, RI.

27. Family Guy is one of the only reasons to own a TV
Love The Simpsons and South Park but I never miss an episode of Family Guy. I can even watch the reruns and laugh. Petah is the Joe SixPack everyone is asking about lately. :)

I was in Vancouver and one of the tourist souvenir shops was half Family Guy stuff. Bobbleheads, shot glasses, everything you find in a curio shop except with a FG character on it. My friend and I went crazy. The best thing I bought was this T-shirt:

It's gotten me kissed quite a few times. The ladies love Stewie!

and i was perusing the clearance rack at kohl's, when i found a red pull-over hoody sweatshirt with a pic on the front with peter as che guevera:

it was a 3x- (he's a big guy- but i'm a 2x, and it would have fit me as well) and it was marked down to $7- (kohl's clearance racks can have some GREAT deals) so i bought it and gave it to him- he was thrilled...and now that i've gotten into the show, i'm jealous.

Really, you're being way to over dramatic and its not worth getting worked up over this crappy movie.

This movie is tripe and if not for Disaster Movie would easily ne the worst film of the year. Still, its their right to make it and if they found a studio dumb enough to pony up the dough and make it happen hell I say go nuts. Watch it crash and burn at the box office, republicans aren't known for their sense of humor.

That my friend will be much more satisfying.

I'm assuming you deleted this because it was so embarassing, even by your standards.

You wrote...

"I never stated the movie theaters used public airwaves..."

No, you stated theaters were public. Then brought up public airwaves when we pointed out they were privately owned."

"I stated they used public lands."

No, you didn't state they used public lands, and if you did you'd be wrong, since the land is also privately owned. Or leased from private owners.

82. Please see the OTHER post; I didn't say "public land" because land is inherently public.
Did you not read the thread to which I linked you?

If possible, could you explain to me exactly where I'm wrong?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4162404&mesg_id=4162404

The airwaves are public because the corporations which use them didn't create them; no one (including them) has more of a right to use the airwaves than anyone else.

Every reasonable person agrees that our airwaves are public; because of this, we can all agree that the government has the right to regulate and ban hate when it comes to the public airwaves (with instruments like the Fairness Doctrine).

Now, what about land? Did corporations create land? Of course not! Why are so many of you afraid to apply the same logic to land? Why isn't land public? Why doesn't the government have the right to regulate whether or not theaters should be allowed to display racist/homophobic/neo-Nazi films?

Thanks. :)

Until you can explain in what manner my logic (stated above and in my thread) is inconsistent, you can't say that my proposal opposed to the first amendment, either. :)

Would you like to stop dodging and start answering? And yes, the notion of "private property" is mostly unjust for the reasons I've claimed.

... is going to go see this flick, perhaps consume an XL vat of faux-buttered popcorn and giganto coke while doing so, then be compelled to commit violent attacks on Liberals? If not, there really isn't any cause for concern. Michael Moore is a public figure and therefore open to parody from the other side. Comes with the territory.

... I'm being inconsistent? Then I'll allow you to change the subject. :)

I could post it again for you!

Here we go:

94. There are laws that prohibit the production or promotion of materials...
...that might incite violence, or the harassment of individuals or groups of people. But XOKCowboy is right in that the least amount of interference is best. Otherwise of course, it's the Lenny Bruces' and the pro-gay advocates, the controversial artists and writers who disagree with their governments' policies that are stifled first.

This flick is just rightwinger lite, and hardly fits the bill for inciting violence.

I am disappointed about James Woods though. I always liked his movies.

15. Holy shit...this thing is even worse than I thought it would be!
Here's an excerpt from the first review I found...

"Liberal? Conservative? Our nation has been split in two; a gangland of citizens who love to bicker over political minutiae, choosing sides with the sort of venom typically reserved for pro wrestling or the finer points of KISStory. However, I think our brittle populace can all agree on one thing: the searing, unyielding pain of an atrocious comedy. “An American Carol” is such a beast, hoping to be the first Conservative-angled production to break free from assured ridicule and enjoy a rich box office life, yet comes staggering to the screen crippled with an absurd agenda, farcical impotence, and necrotic taste in comedic targets.

“Carol” is created with a specific agenda to support the American armed forces, using the Washington and Patton characters (along with John Kennedy) to remain the audience that diplomacy is second only to a strong military hand. The ghosts show Malone (in full “Christmas Carol” fashion) the results of an America without the sacrifice of war, exploring how slavery still exists and visiting a nuked Detroit. Of course, with “Carol” being a zany comedy and all, there’s even a sobering moment spent at the smoldering ruins of 9/11, punctuated with Malone’s head pinballing between two gigantic bells. Shhh, don’t tell Zucker, but I don’t think 9/11 is funny anymore.

“Carol” can whine about Moore all it wants, but I’ll take “Canadian Bacon” over this trainwreck any day of the week. Perhaps made with the best intentions to honor the nation and those who choose to fight for our freedom, “An American Carol” instead reinforces how needlessly divisive our country has become. Certainly there’s a better way to say “Yay America!” than this lousy, hopeless movie, easily one of the worst films of the year. "

22. Oh thank god!
A movie that actually supports the American armed forces. Goodness knows that those poor dears are so put upon, sucking up $0.40 of every federal dollar, having free access to our children, running captive-audience pep rallies for themselves, and receiving the reflexive adulation of 80% of the populace. It's just sooooo trying to be in the armed forces when those pointy-headed libruls keep trying to use "diplomacy" instead of throwing thousands of our nation's youth at things that scare us.

This piece of crap will submerge without a trace within 72 hours of its opening, and be a blot on the resume of anyone associated with it (provided they're stupid enough to put it on their resume).

This looks like worse than Freidberg/Seltzer garbage. And the fact that they still cannot stop spearing Michael Moore, calling him an "America Hater" (even though I have yet to hear a single quote where he actually SAYS that) makes it doubly shitty. Michael Moore probably knows more about the way government and politics work than all of those dumbshits combined, and is probably 10 times as active in causes.

And Jon Voight can Merry Go fuck himself.

Why? Because the right wing has no sense of HUMOR!! They think insulting other people and other groups is funny.

Would I ban the movie? Hell no. Let them sink a few million into making this piece of shit and watch it bomb at the theaters. In the marketplace of ideas, their little Carol has no worth, and when it bombs, it'll be a long time befoer they make another one like it.

In short, the haters' days are numbered. Let's not endanger free speech by calling for it to be banned. Let THEM be the ones that look like book-burners (did I say LOOK LIKE?) when they call for Maher's new movie "Religulous" to be banned.

Willis used to campaign a lot for Bush as a Republican earlier. Now he's switched to a registered independent, and bad mouths him quite a bit.

Gene Simmons was a big apologist for Bush earlier... I'll never go near a Kiss album again (not that they've appealed to me much since childhood anyway)! He seemed to be in character in that B-Movie "Runaway"...

And though Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine of Star Trek fame) once married a wingnut, she's probably one of the most responsible entities besides Barack himself for him becoming our next president!
