Weird, weird stuff
I know this has been discussed but I just checked me and my wife's voter status for Washington state and it says no record found. We both have voter registration cards and we always vote. Anyone know why we aren't showing up on the online database now? We've lived here in the same place for 10 years, why have we been "purged"? It now says we missed the online registration.

3. Is it too late to register any other way
besides on-line?

If so, plan on showing up at your polling place and make sure they give you a provisional ballot.

Who knows why you were purged. I'd suggest visiting your local election board and discussing it with the highest level employee there you can get to speak with you, preferably the person who actually runs the entire operation. Bring all of your documentation along. Meanwhile, to repeat myself, if you can still register do so immediately.

I read where I can go somewhere and register by the 20th but I still wonder why my wife and I were removed. I'm going to have some of my neighbors check theirs tomorrow.

15. Here's some info for your State
http://www.866ourvote.org/state?id=0030

Looks like you might have missed the deadline. You might want to call your Registrar of Voters directly; perhaps there's something wrong with the online database app. There's a hot line number at the web site (1-866-OUR-VOTE) to report any shenanigans. Not sure what they would do about being purged, but it might be worth reporting it anyway. They're a group of lawyers that are trying to fight back against this kind of thing.

Saw an article the other day that 19 States have been engaging in voter roll purges even though we are well inside the 90 day guideline. They aren't supposed to be doing it, but they are, and your State was listed as one of the 19.

Have you tried this one? https://www.voteforchange.com/ I used this app to look myself up a couple days ago, and at first it failed to find me. It requested some additional personal info and did the search again, and it succeeded.

Hope this gets cleared up for ya. Unbelievable the kind of shit going on in this country these days.

36. If you get purged, you've been summarily unregistered.
The way I read the rules you get until the 20th to register if you are a new resident of WA, but otherwise can only register up until 30 days before an election. Of course, the OP shouldn't have to be doing this at all.

It's outrageous.

21. I was listening just an hour or two ago
to my local (Santa Fe, NM) community radio station, KSFR, and I think it was Counterspin. A discussion was going on about dropping people from the voter registration lists, and said that in some states they will drop people if there's not a perfect match with driver's license and voter registration and maybe something else. Which means, I believe, things like if you have your middle initial in one place and not in another. They are NOT supposed to be doing that kind of cross-checking, from what I understood, but of course it's being done.

It would be interesting if you can find out exactly why you and your wife were dropped, but meanwhile get registered again. And request an advance ballot, if you can in your state.

9. I have voted absentee for the last 8 years.
I don't know how you vote on the other side of the state...is it with touch screens?

Sounds like you've been purged. I know they did it in Whatcom county (Sequoia) in 2004 for the governor's race. I thought things had been cleaned up but maybe not.

17. Thank you, I think so too. Fellow DUer ColbertWatcher found it....
It 'spoke to me' when I first saw it, ColbertWatcher adjusted it a bit and let me use it. Here is the original as it was found by ColbertWatcher:

It is larger and imo filled with even more emotion. ColbertWatcher lightened the version I use in my sig line so the child's smile wouldn't disappear when it was shrunk. I use it as a constant reminder to myself, what it is we all fight for.

And seeing it that way, I thought, maybe that's what he saw too, he saw himself there in that little boy, and that's why his eyes are closed, it's like a prayer, there's something powerful going on in his heart.

18. Try searching by VUID
The number on your/her voter registration card.

I am in Texas and searched first for mine with my name, address and date of birth. The searchy thing said "No record".

Then I searched with my VUID and the searchy thing found me - name, address and everything.

22. UPDATE
After checking my wife wasn't purged, only me. We've owned the same home for 10 years. There is no reason I should have been purged!

DU really should consider a database for people in the 19 states to show they've been purged. I'm going to the election board people first thing in the morning.

23. Are you in some data bases with a middle initial and some without?
Does the Mrs sometimes include her maiden name in official places, and sometimes not? These discrepancies have been used to ddrop people from the rolls... in droves... and in violation of Federal Law.

I would go down in person, if possible to get back in the book. If not possible, insist on filling out a "provisional ballot" on Election Day and FOLLOW UP FOLLOW UP FOLLOW UP

30. Legal voters thrown off rolls - Ariticle from USA Today - May help.....
Legal voters thrown off rolls

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-01-01-voting-rolls_N.htm

By Richard Wolf, USA TODAY
Five years after passage of a federal law to create electronic registration databases to deter voter fraud, the new technology is posing hurdles that could disenfranchise thousands of legal voters, a USA TODAY examination finds.

From Florida to Washington, voters have been challenged because names or numbers on their registration forms did not exactly match other government databases, such as Social Security and motor vehicle agencies. "We know that eligible people have been thrown off the rolls," says Justin Levitt, a lawyer with the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law.

(snip)

Perhaps the worst problems are in Florida, where a Gannett News Service analysis found more than 14,000 people whose voter registrations were disputed by the state because they didn't match other databases; about 75% are minorities. A federal district court ruled last month that the state couldn't deny registrations based on database matching.

Federal officials say the system is evolving — and improving. "Even with the top-notch best database in the world, you're still going to have human error," says Thomas Wilkey, the election commission's executive director.

...........

Ridiculous! Hope you find out what happen to you and your wifes records. Odd you both got kicked off the rolls. Did you recently retire on Social Security or move? Just a thought. I would ask my Congressman's office to look into this.
