The comments from Colleen Holmes, who heads the right-wing group based in Washington, D.C., appeared to have been inadvertently included in an e-mail to local radio host Jack E. Jett last week. Jett, who’s openly gay, later provided a copy of the e-mail to Dallas Voice and other media outlets.

“
I hate to risk pulling a McCain,” Holmes joked in the e-mail to Jett, referring to Republican vice presidential nominee John McCain’s proposal to postpone a debate last week.

“I was giving more thought to why people are hesitant to get involved in the issue, which led to trying to brainstorm ways to counter the ‘Will and Grace’ effect,” Holmes wrote. “The other side has so effectively used rhetoric and emotionality to manipulate and flat-out bully many Americans away from taking any position indicating that homosexuality is wrong. It’s not surprising that politicians, media members and even military leaders are shying away from the topic, because Hollywood and other media outlets react so virulently at even the slightest hint of negativity toward homosexuality.”

“
The issue has become such a tar baby, people don’t want to go anywhere near it, because the ‘homophobe’ moniker is so dreaded and so liberally applied,” Holmes wrote.
