6. Republicans AND anyone who voted to repeal Glass-Steagall -- why won't Dems support the New Deal?

Waiting to see Obama come out in favor of reinstating the New Deal banking anti-trust protections (horizntal ownership restrictions) set up precisely to prevent this sort of thing. Gingrich, Gramm and Clinton and Larry Summers (Obama political advisor) colluded to not only repeal Glass Steagall, but gave companies like Citibank a green light to begin illegally aquiring FIRE corporations for a year before the Glass Steagall act was "expected" to be repealed, thus forcing gov't to either repeal it or hold Citi in contempt of the law. Much as the same people argued in the case of FISA (encourage the existing law to be flouted so it becomes a dead letter) article after article was written in the business pages back in 1998 praising Clinton for agreeing not to prosecute banks that put themselves under ownership of entities called "banc" in order to start breaking the Glass Steagall act. "Citibanc", "Banc of America" etc. For a good year before the law was repealed.
