Bill Maher threatened; show goes on - and letters sent to LA Times
http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/entertainment&id=6445129

PALM DESERT, Calif. (CNS) -- Security was tight and lines were long at outspoken comedian Bill Maher's appearance Saturday night at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, authorities said Sunday.

But nothing disrupted the political and social satirist's show Saturday night, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

"We did provide two deputies as security," said sheriff's Investigator Matt Diaz. "It was uneventful."

Extra precautions were taken in part because of threatening letters containing a powdery substance that were sent to Maher at the McCallum, and to the Los Angeles Times, on Friday.

Riverside County sheriff's Cpl. Matt Spain said the letter was addressed to Maher, the host of HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher." His new documentary "Religulous" skewers organized religion, and recently opened in movie theaters.

"It contained specific threats made against Bill Maher," said Spain, who did not provide details and did not say whether the threats mentioned the movie.

The FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force was continuing to investigate the incident, Eimiller said.

The letter received by The Times mail room on Friday was addressed to two reporters and had no return address, according to The Times.

"Save the Babies" was handwritten on the front of the envelope and "Kill All Obama Supporters" was written on the back, The Times reported.

2. Because THAT is a consistent "pro-life message"...
As far as I can tell that is pro-fetus not pro-"life".

11. I like this meme, pro-fetus.
We should make sure it catches on. If Newt can get a bunch of people to say "Democrat Party" instead of "Democratic Party," why can't we rename pro-life -- which is a total lie -- as pro-fetus? They only care about the life form until the moment it's born, and after that, they wash their hands.

20. I call 'em pro-pregnancy because they don't really care about the fetus either
or else they would support laws to restrict pollutants which have been linked to increased levels of miscarriage. They would also support tougher laws against mercury pollution because that causes lower iq in fetus. They would support universal healthcare at the very least for pregnant women to ensure the fetus stays healthy and is born at full term. They would support a living wage so pregnant women could afford healthy food to nurish the fetus. There are some people who really are pro-life but most just want to make women have babies.

3. Apparently the person is pro-life until birth. Then it's OK to kill people.
The person is a nutjob.

6. To quote Bill Hicks.
If your so pro-life, don't lock arms and block clinics. Lock arms and block cemetaries.

12. Who is it who carries out domestic terrorism again?
What side of the left/right spectrum always has it's most promising leaders assassinated?

Who blew up the Oklahoma City Federal Building?

Who kills doctors and bombs clinics?

Who bombs and burns black churches?

Who lynched minorities?

FUCK CONSERVATIVE TERRORISTS!

Isn't there some land we can give them to go live on and do as they like so they can leave the intelligent, thinking people alone?

It's so embarrassing that people like this are a product of our society.

15. This is who they truly are.
Killers. With a twisted agenda that says to protect life with death. Would there be a hell, the place these monsters deserve in it is special indeed.

And all over a fucking movie.
